Lightbulb Why no Hood Scoops/Ram Air?

I must say, these plain hoods look awfully boring on the non-V8 models. Why isn't GM adding hood scoops standard on all trims or offering an option? The hood would look SO much better, IMHO, plus add some power from ram air!

i.e. like this SLP Ultra-Z replica hood on my 4th Gen Camaro.

You don't need ram air on the hood these days with the huge grille openings. The old Gen 4 front end had 2 baby openings and a sliver for air.

The hoods on the 2012-2105 ZL1 provide down force and clear out some hot air. The SS 2014-2015 allowed hot air to escape the engine compartment.

For the 2016 cars, you get the same as the SS 2014 - 2015, a functional hood to allow hot air a chance to escape.

I predict the after market won't be long in coming to the table.

Didn't GM show some sort of ram air intake for LT models?

I wondered the same thing. That's why I add ram hoods to my renders. Well, now I add heat extractors, but... We need a hood scoop style hood. It's heritage with a camaro if anything...

What is that, just a photoshop, or an actual planned aftermarket product? That is located far too high up the hood, it needs to be located towards the front of the hood to make a difference ram-air-wise.

Interesting supposition, but has any of this been confirmed by any of the Camaro engineers? I am skeptical, and believe you would still see gains w/functional ram air. Would be cool to see a shop do some tests/benchmarking. I would assume GM may have already attempted this. But I do not recall any Camaro w/functional hood scoops from GM, all I have seen came as 2nd sticker options from SLP, i.e. 4th Gen SS!

The hood openings on the 2014-2015 SS and the 2012-2015 ZL1 are confirmed on what they do.

Details on Ram air and hood vents to force air in are not something I have seen Chevy comment on, but they have stated multiple times about why they opened up the lower grille which has been for better cooling.

It looks like the Z/28 was the biggest driver of that decision with the mid cycle upgrade in 2014.

In the old days the WS6/ram air/cowl induction really added genuine power because air intake was not computer regulated and sampled 100 times/second.

Even with the 4th gen 350 and MAFs you still had mechanical operation of the air intake.

Today's cars have so much more control over the air intake you don't need ram air to increase power. In fact I don't believe the K&N - type CAI's make that much of a hp difference. They give you more sound but not much more power. You need forced induction to make a difference on modern cars.

The vents in the 6th gen SS hood are for engine compartment heat extraction, not ram air or cowl induction.

Combining short ram intake with a tune makes a significant difference. The SRI can make a short term difference but to get the long term results one needs to be tuned.
