Removing Engine From ZL1

If someone need to remove the engine from their car, would you pull it out the top or would you have to drop it out the bottom?

you can pull a fifth gen motor from the top, if you don't have a lift. I know this because I have done it. It is much easier if you have a tilting device. Here are two pics. Removing the heads may not be necessary but it helps. I didn't remove the hood either.

Well, I suppose it would be easier pulling an engine from a Z-28, because of there not being a supercharger in the way. I did mean specifically from a ZL1, as that is what I have now. As opposed to the 67 SS I traded it for.

Probably only takes a few mins to pull the blower off though

no differences...it would be necessary to remove the supercharger before engine removal. It is still an LS motor so it is dimensionally the same.

Based upon the responses and photos, never having done this, it looks like either under or over will work, but based upon Stephen's input, more engine disassembly would be needed to take it out from the top, hood removal step understood, so as I'm understanding things it may depend upon the extend of the engine mods that are intended to be made once it has been taken out...

The only engine mod worthy of pulling the motor is crank/rods/pistons or replacing it all together.
