You can see where everyone jumped on the 5.0 GT and then sales evaporated almost overnight

I think they all might have big numbers because of tax refunds

I would like to see how many convertibles were produced and sold this month. The coupes are probably taking a backseat for awhile. Pony car market is strong again, even with the insane gas prices.

Edit: I will see what I can find on the Vert production/sales

And Ford barely beat GM in total sales for March. GM stopped the promotions I hear.

Nobody I have messaged knows the coupe/vert split. Several reports on the web do credit the convertible as one of the "hot" passenger cars along with the Regal and CTS I believe.

I'm gonna do I math problem and then go to bed, I am rounding to the nearest whole because I am tired.
I see a bump in production from Dec to Jan of about 3000 units. GM had been riding pretty low through the last half of the year so I can honestly say that the additional units were most definitely verts. It's hard to tell how many coupes are not being produced now to make room for the verts, but if coupe sales had lingered at a rough average of 5000 per month for the last 4 months, that's what i'm gonna use

In January, the coupe sold 4800, without the vert available because production starts soon. I see 6200 sold in Feb and I believe verts were starting to appear mid-Feb if i'm not mistaken. This month 9,000 were sold as GM retained the 10,000 production run of the Camaro. I see a 3000 unit increase in December, I see 4500 more Camaro's being sold in March than in Jan.

I can say that a possible 45/55 split (vert/coupe) sounds decent off the top of my head. This would be high volume share but sales at first would are expected to be high. We seen a 30% sales increase over last month (some verts were sold in Feb), Sales doubled from Jan when the vert was not available but the production numbers stay the same.

Sales only increased from last year by 60 cars, which means the coupe's sales are starting to slide a bit. If sales were sustained from last year, March would have been close to 14,000 (which is over Oshawa's regular duty). Convertibles usually sell very well in April and throughout the summer. Coupe sales should see a nice bump in July after the 2012's are readily available.

Heres the sales plan though, as coupe sale decrease, the vert will stabilize sales throughout the spring and into summer. The coupe should be receiving updates or a slight refresh/interior and should bring some sales until winter. Sales will naturally start to slump, as there have been about 175k Camaro's sold since 2009. The 6 month special models and ZR1 is great free advertising that translates into real sales.

imagine how much higher deliveries might have been if cars weren't trapped on trailers being held hostage. Good numbers either way.

The majority of sales this month were convertibles, I just can't find a solid number. The convertible's started shipping in mid February, owners and dealers started receiving their cars in the last week of Feb. There was a bump in sales from Jan to Feb of 1482 units and some of that had to do with the manufacturer rebates that were active in Jan-Feb on 2010 Camaro's. The rebates were not large enough to really make an impact (as some of those were regional) so I firmly believe that a good portion of the 1482 February bump was convertibles at the end of the month. The rebates stopped 1 March and the 2719 unit increase in March was all convertible, along with the February numbers (because the average has increased month over month) and were at 4201 convertibles in March. I made an educated guesstimation a few months ago and said that the Camaro convertible pre-sale numbers were probably about 5000. We got a 1500 and a 4200 unit increase all of the sudden (convertibles of course) which is a solid 5700 cars. I wouldn't be so positive if these numbers were non-traditional and outside of the current sales trend, but this is a clear boost in sales and I still say that pre-orders were around 5000.

Seasonal increases are also a factor, but still too early for true spring sales. The question is now, how much is the convertible cannibalizing the coupes sales and production? I didn't expect the coupe sales to be below 5000 before the convertible was released, prior to the production of the convertible on 28 Jan , the Camaro coupe was being produced at about 9000 in Jan. There was a production slow down in the fall, but the average number throughout the 5th Gens cycle is 9000-10000 per month. I believe that the convertible has cannibalized nearly 50% of coupe production, which in turn will affect its sales at that figure if not more. The better the convertible does, the less coupes will be made.

March was the first full month of convertible sales and this was the big sales surge that the vert brought. This month was mainly those pre-sales numbers, April may contain some of those too so its possible the numbers will be boosted over what was posted this month. If it starts to slump again.. It might be time to put some incentives on those 2010's...
