Questions about some 18" wheels I'm considering
I found some 18" wheels that I like (perfect wheels would be 18" AR torq thrusts)! But they are available for the Camaro in different offsets so I would like to get some input from you all first.
The sizes of the wheels are: Option 1: 18"x8.5" Offset 15mm Backspace 5.34" Option 2: 18"x8.5" Offset 40mm Backspace 6.32" For now, I'll use the stock tires (245/55-18). When I replace the tires I will go with 245/55-18 in front and 265/50-18 in rear. Questions: 1) Is it okay to have a shorter than stock backspace? 2) Are there disadvantages to wheels having a smaller offset (i.e. option 1)therefore moving the outer edge further away from the hub? 3) Have you heard about/have experience with the brand "Drag Extreme Alloys"? Do they make reliable wheels? The car is my DD and I don't race it. 4) Of the two options, which would you suggest and why? I did a search first and used this http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp and also read through Sir Nuke's link about offset and backspace. Thanks in advance! |

1) It is, if it can still clear the brembos.
2) no. Most people get wider wheels with bigger offest to maximize contact patch of the tire. 3) never heard of them. 4) I'd go with whatever option fits. Although, if the offest is too far, you'll have all the weight of the wheel on the inside or outside of the wheel. I would imagine it's best to have the wheel as centered at possible. |

Thanks Mindz! But I've looked online and have found mixed reviews from people who have purchased wheels from this brand, including cracked wheels. I'll keep looking and find something with a better reputation (more than likely, American Racing).
