Why so few manuals?
I called several dealerships today because I wanted to test drive a SS with a manual transmission. No one had one on the lot. I figured the manual would be more popular in the SS model...

yea during my search it was the same thing here. seems to be the case for many makes now.. i'm gonna guess with all the congested freeways during rush hour + paddle shifting, the days of manuals are nearing its end..

i had the same problem.... i think they get in more autos and they only get a few manuals in and the manual sells fast because people are looking for them.... autos sell more but they make more of them so its makes sense why there are more autos

When I got mine in April I was told that I could have any color I wanted in an automatic, but that the manual was going to be harder to find. However, they did find one with exactly the options I wanted, but they had to transfer it from another dealer in San Diego. Took about a week to get it.
I went in asking for a black 2SS/RS manual with the inferno interior and a sunroof. They got it for me, and I got IO stripes for free (didn't ask for them, so they didn't charge me.) |

I was able to drive both v6 and v8 manuals at my dealer but they were the only 2 of the 3 they had out of 8 or 9 Camaro's they had.......but when mine came in there were 2 other 2011 manual's that came in with mine a LS and a 2LT but 90% of their SS cars are automatic.......I have owned an automatic 2SS and now the 1SS LS3 and I am absolutly 100% happy with the LS3 over the Automatic

It's probably safe to say the majority of drivers these days just don't know how to drive, or want to learn how to drive a manual. The best thing I ever did was have a manual transmission vehicle as my first vehicle. When I order my 2SS its surely going to be manual.

If you search the threads you should be able to find the breakdown on this. I believe it's something like 48% manual 52% auto have been produced. Probably just the area you're in. I think dealers also order more autos. I know this is the case with my dealer.

I suspect many of the buyers who want a manual are pretty adamant about it. I know I was. The local dealership in my little town has had the same silver automatic 2SS for almost 6 months now. A black 1SS manual sold immediately.

Just a thought: Only Automatics are available because it's "what's left" at the end of the 2010 production year. Meaning that all of the Manuals that were made were the first ones purchased and no one wants an Automatic...
just sayin' |
