Welding on quad tips. Anything I should watch out for?

I took my camaro in to get some quad tips welded on my MRT v2.

The tips are heavily off centered with the ZL1 diffuser I installed.

The mechanic said it's going to be about $280-$325 because he's gonna have to cut the H pipe and rearrange the mufflers to weld the tips on.

Is this fair price? Anything I should watch out for?

Thanks !

I got quoted 200-225 when I took mine in. Asked them if they would have to removed the whole set-up and they said no it was pretty straight forward. Does sound a bit pricey.

So he was charging $225 just to cut off your tips and weld on new ones ?

This guy has to cut off the MRT and add to the H pipe so the axle back will be centered properly... Seems like an extra $100 isn't too much ?

He was going to cut my current tips off and make a y-pipe and weld my old set and new set to the y-pipe.

Any chance he told you how long it would take?

This guy is charging me for 4 - 4.5 hours at $72 rate

That just seems way to high to me. To cut off the tips weld on the new ones, change over the H pipe and move things. Not even sure cutting at the H pipe will fix the issue he is talking about. There is not that much room under the center of the car to move the pipes apart.

Here is what the system looks like out of the Camaro (after my X pipe was added).

Personally, I would think cutting off the pipe from the MRT to the tip and re-welding the twin tip on with new pipe would or should work. $100 - 150 total for a good shop.

Well this is the guy I use for my welding, so I'm comfortable with his work.

It wound up being $315 with materials and tax. It came out perfectly centered and spaced, etc.. everything is good so I'm happy with the work.

He cut behind the muffler so he could slide the whole muffler back farther - moving the tips towards the center. Both of the tips were on the far outside of the ZL1 diffuser, so he had to move the center over around 3 inches.

It was good work. My brother came with me and knows a lot more about welding. He said the guy did a really good job and the rate was on par with it.

Will post pictures tomorrow !

Sounds like he was fabricating right..? so a $115 hourly rate seems right up there with a $72 labor rate
