shocked at all the people leaving it in neutral. much rather have it in 1st or reverse than use a brake only. I usually leaving it in 1 or R and use the brake.

My Camaro isn't a stick but when I drove a stick I heard you should put it in R and put up the parking brake so that's what I did.

I'm almost embarrased to admit this but I've been driving stick for 7years and i've never once heard to put the car in reverse. I've always put it in 1st with the ebrake on. Learned something new today.

I always park on flat land, wheels to the curb, no brake. However, if in an unfamiliar place or on a slope Ill put it in R. Im just too afraid that Ill get in it, start it, and pull my foot of the clutch end end up in my living room.

Always gear and brake for me. A friend of mine had her car roll down a very shallow incline at a gas station which wrecked her car good.

i wouldnt say reverse is the "lowest" gear. i move alot faster idling in reverse than i do in first. but to stick with the thread......... if im on the flat - neutral + E brake. if im on a hill - first + E brake

Personally I always park in 1st with Parking brake... Even the 3 ATs I've owned have always been parked with parking brake. no matter flat or hill. Good habbit IMO As for the ATs I drive but don't own.. I typically get in trouble if It's not left in P with parking brake set, chock blocks, drip pan, steering wheel locked, log book removed, and my 5988 filled out properly. >.< lol |

Usually neutral with brake on flat surfaces. On inclines, 1st with brake. I probably need to get in the habit of using 1st all the time.

Wow! I am suprised.. I was wrong.. this is the first I've seen with a Reverse geared lower than first (by a hair though) Either way.. 1st or Reverse would be fine.

My drivewaye is about a 30 degree slope and e brake will not hold it. It's always best practice to leave it in gear as well as setting brake.

I use both, but the sequencing is different.
Clutch in, neutral, clutch out. Set handbrake Let foot off of regular brake to ensure the parking brake is tensioned enough to ensure the vehicle does not roll. If yes, pull up on handbrake until vehicle does not roll. Then, engage 1st gear or reverse and exit vehicle. This makes sure the weight of the vehicle isn't resting on the gears or cause any lurches or slight jumps when the clutch is depressed on startup. |
