With all do respect. I don't understand how moving the lounges helps the lurker situation. What about people (like me) who want to ask a quick question, the info is minor, and you only want responses from specific people. The lounge fills that need. Do i really need to start a new thread? By keeping the lounges in their own sections you will know that if you ask a question it's going to be answered by a guy with same engine as you. I can't imagine I am the only one who feels this way.
Thank you for listening (reading).

I get it. It's nice to have a place to bs with your buddies, and if you happen to go off topic, there is nothing wrong with that. But there is a place for it. Having a single thread for everything is a double edged sword.

Someone comes into the help desk and asks a question which is answered promptly and accurately, and then shuffled into oblivion. The next guy comes in an asks the same question. Say you answer with the same helping tone and not belittle him/her for not searching. They have the answer and then go on their merry way. What about the lurkers who prefer anonymity to signing up and posting info, but just want to search for the info, yet are too lazy to hit the "show posts" button on the search. How would these people be able to seek help?

This is a genuine question. I am not saying no, but I'd like to make sure you're not being discriminatory towards some members.

EDIT: What about the detailer's lounge and other groups that want to be able to chat with each other?
I understand the issues that can happen. I also see how ours has worked. Putting everyones lounges in their respective sticky section would allow the people that actually do help others to keep an eye on the lounge and the other threads in their section without moving around. Forcing us to switch between two totally separate areas will end up with our lounges not being used or used very little.

I guess I still don't see why anything needed to be done anyways. Everything was chugging along just fine... now there's a mess. I voted compromise... but back the way it was is probably how it should have been all along. Who were we hurting? Exactly what was the problem in the first place? If you had to move every thread that went off topic to the off topic forum, there would be no threads left anywhere else.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. This is a perfect example of why that always has been and always will be good advice. Can we just put things back the way they were and forget about all of this? I'm losing interest daily. Who knows... maybe I'll start actually driving my car more often.

Okay I read it all, I likewise don't really see what the problem was. I vote put them back as they were or if that is not aceptable, comprimise, but in the off topic just does not seem right.

Use PM.

Think of it like this... Historically, a question would be asked and all the replies would be in that one small file. New question, new file. Search pulls up a specific small file (usually).

Now, imagine most questions being asked are stored in one HUGE file..... some new kid comes in and asks, "What's the best CAI for my car?" You proceed to rip him a new one because you've already answered that question a million times. He leaves and never comes back because "Those C5 people are punks!"

Forums have a specific organization for ease of use for anyone, not just a certain clique. And that's what you want, a clique thread... not a good idea.

Bullshite threads belong in off-topic, information threads belong in their most appropriate area.

Did you originally come to C5 for information? Or to make friends? Be honest...

It's cool to have friends on here, but when all the good info is in one big thread, a noob does a google search for "best exhaust for a v8 camaro", google will take him somewhere else, not here.

Here, on C5, is where he belongs.

No, it's not a clique thread. The men's lounge and PWA is a clique thread. You never see new people in there, it's always the same guys. As we've previously stated, people would ask a question, we would answer it, and then they would stay and chat until someone else asked a question. We were constantly talking with new people in there. Hence why it doesn't fit the definition of a clique "persons who interact with each other more regularly and intensely than others in the same setting".

You didn't address my questions.

77 persons posting 3,200+ times in one thread, with the top 10 persons responsible for well over the majority of the thread... ~2500 posts.

How many V8 engine related posts? (legitimate problem/solution posts)

Look at it another way... I have a problem and need a quick solution.

"Does the oil pressure idiot light and the console oil pressure gauge feed off the same sensor?"

How many 'other topic' posts do I have to go thru before I get to my answer, IF I ever do get an answer, because only 8 people know I even posted a question.

I never come to a lounge looking for answers to technical questions, that's what the various categories are set up for. If I need an answer about my engine I go to the LFX section. Or I do a search on my particular issue, if I can't find an answer then I make a thread about it and usually within a few posts I get my answer. As members I wish the OP had the ability to delete any thread he starts. That way after you get your answer you can delete the thread and reduce the clutter.

I did come to C5 looking for information. I stayed on C5 because I wanted to make friends and talk to people who are like me. As far as "scaring off" people, that was happening long before the lounges even existed and will continue to happen with the lounges moved into into the basement. I can only speak from my experience, I did not exactly feel welcome when I first got here. You mentioned I should PM people. I don't think the average C5 user would feel comfortable PMing people, vendors yes, people no. When I first got here there is no way in hell I would PM people I didn't know, and in some cases that were rude to me. But I got it, I was the new guy.
Outside C5 I am a very respected business man. This current business model is set up to be a one and done model. Come in, get info and leave. In the business world that's a doomed model. You need people to stay. The lounge would be the vehicle to keep members. That's why I mentioned 3 lounges. Demographically "gear heads" are going to want to talk to other "gear heads"." Ultimately , somewhere along the line C5 is a business and the lounges are good for business. If there is no lounge I probably won't hang around for long, because once you get your info, what reason is there to hang around. And as far as business goes I am probably a very common and profitable demographic.
I think we are going to have respectfully agree to disagree.
