Stock GM paint protector issue
Hello All,
I was doing a detailed wash on my Camaro SS this afternoon and I noticed what appears to be dirt under the material that is supposed to block paint chips (or at least that's what I assume it's there for) on the bottom of my passenger side door frame. Now, I never knew if GM installed it or my dealer. I ASSUME it's GM since I bought the car brand new from a Chevy dealer. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had this issue of trapped dirt. It's noticeable and I'm not sure what to do about it.. All suggestions are welcome. Photos are below: PROBLEM AREA (PASSENGER SIDE): WHAT THE OTHER (DRIVER'S) SIDE LOOKS LIKE:

It's a factory item.
I had a body shop quote $46 to replace a black one. Try the dealer first.

Black one? I'm pretty sure it's just clear vinyl.
My passenger side doesn't have dirt under it, but it is beginning to peel a bit. Looks like it has an air bubble under it. If you are REALLY worried about it, order some clear 3M vinyl....pull the old one off (carefully), trace the old one on the new vinyl, cut it out and reinstall. You may need a hairdryer to help get it to conform. I'm guessing you could get a local vinyl shop to give you a few scraps pieces of clear....and bat your eyes a bit and they may even install it! I'm sure someone from a local car club would help you as well.... |

I had the same problem and just peeled them off. Came off without effort. I didn't replace mine, kind of a joke for protection if you ask me. Here was my post on this:

Thanks everyone! I'm scared to peel them off myself... will the paint underneath come off too? Eek.

Naaa...paint will be fine. Use a little elbow grease, rubbing alcohol or GooGone (if needed) to get any sticky stuff off.

a bit of heat from a hair dryer will help with removal also, just be careful if your using goo gone or something similar as it's flamable

Mine has a little dirt in it also. I'll replace them with OEM when I get tired of them. Those are high-impact locations, and it wouldn't take much to chip those areas.
