Option 3) LT4 Z28 because the Camaro is not important enough to GM for team Camaro to do what they need to do. The Camaro is given bits and pieces and has to work with it.

That sounds like option 2 with a little more cynicism....

IF it is supercharged, I'll be bummed, but then again I have a '14 Z/28 that isn't supercharged that I love dearly and won't be replaced with this new Z/28.

Is it really all that cynical? The last, and only time, the Camaro got a stand alone performance engine was the DZ302. Sure, it's worked fine up until this point but what happens when it doesn't work? Should the path of the Camaro be dictated by the Corvette?

I'm still holding out for a NA engine...... Until proven otherwise.

But as I've suggested in the past, the Z/28 could simply be a light weighted, CC braked track focused ZL1. And I'm ok with that........once they announce the engine is the LT4.

GM has already put a SC 6.2 liter giant in two wonderful cars. A 3rd wouldn't be horrible........if they can't find a NA alternative.

So the question is a) a 500+ HP NA engine orrrrrrrrrrr b) a 640 HP forced induction engine or c) a 708 HP SC engine?

I don't think reducing the Z/28 to a glorified options package is the right move. They would be better off calling it the ZL2 package. Even if they can knock off a hundred or so pounds from the thing, it's just going to magnify the weight of the LT4 and associated coolers up front.

Let's be honest, the only answer is B. They only have the LT1 and LT4. GM isn't going to do a specific Camaro engine.

ZL2 was the cowl induction hood option.

I agree it will be the LT4. If it was an NA engine it'd probably be in the GS Corvette.

Who says it won't be? It could just be that the Z/28 gets it first. Based on the camo, the Z/28 is a year away.

Not necessarily. Remember the C6 Grand Sport still had the LS3 out of the base C6.

If anything, a new naturally aspirated engine in a track focused Corvette would've been the Z06 and the LT4 model the ZR1. But that's no longer the case.

There wasn't a 200 hp disparity between the GS and Z06. Also, the Z06 filled the high power n/a role. It no longer does.

In 1969, yes.
In 1989, no. The new 1LE was the purpose built track car.
In 2014, definitely.
In 2018, with Al O and Mark leading the build, I'm guessing yes.

Regarding engines, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess there's a new N/A LT* engine variant previously unreleased. ymmv
