Question for California LEOs
I just moved to So Cal from Florida under military orders. I am a Florida resident, hold a FL license, and my car is titled and tagged in FL. Am I required to do anything to make my car California legal if I am only here temporarily under orders? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nope you should be ok. I know a few military guys who did the same and left their cars registered in Florida. The only problem you may run into is if you get pulled over repeatedly. Then they may make you change your license and register your vehicle here. There are a ton of people who live here part of the year so as long as you don't attract to much attention you should be ok.

If you are under military orders you are not required to change your license or registration. Civilians have 30 days to change.

You will have to get a smog check to get base stickers, but let the shop know it is ONLY for base stickers and they shouldn't give you any grief over your mods.
Where you are here in Temecula, take it over to Consult-A-Tech at 28671 Calle Cortez and talk to Tim or his wife Carrie. They will take care of ya without any drama. Just tell then Rick with the Camaro sent ya. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Since you mentioned you will be at a university...
When I started at my university all the people with out of state plates got tickets about 30 days in. This was in 1981 and I am not a LEO.

I won't be using my Camaro as a daily driver because of the gas, so that won't be an issue. I'll be using a beater that is registered in Ca to commute to school. Either way, I'm still on Active duty, so it shouldn't be an issue anyway.

MECP. Not much has changed with regards to Officer Programs. They recently changed the required commitment from 10 years to 8, but that's about it.

Congrats. A buddy of mine went into the nursing program and said screw it and was able to switch it up and became a Dr. He should be putting Cdr on this year.

Thanks. That's actually my ultimate goal. I'm 15 years in now so I have another 15 years to make it happen. Would definitely be cool to retire with a DR in front of my name.
