Very simple question, probably dumb
Can anyone tell me how you can get a replacement filter for a robofab CAI? Just got my Camaro (white, 2SS/RS, A6, tan interior). Had the GMPP exhaust added - sounds fantastic. Really love it. The rotofab CAI just arrived, too.
So - before I put it on, just want to make sure it'll be easy to replace the air filter on it. Hoping it's something available at most autoparts places, and places that change oil, etc. Thoughts? |

Most the intakes come with reusable filters. You just need to clean them and they're good to go.
You could also buy a replacement filter from Rotofab if needed. |

good to know that they're cleanable. looked on the rotofab website and did not see any options for purchasing just the filters. so you think it's a specialty filter, then, that would have to be bought from roto?

SGOS252382, you use to have the GMPP offroad exhaust, I think. How did you like it?

With a tranny tune (which hold each gear when you slow down) the GMPP off road exhaust made some bad AFM noises. So I got the AFM turned off and it was much better, but it still had some drone. The main reason I sold mine is because I didn't want my car to get too loud with long tube headers. I also didn't want any drone at cruise speeds. The GMPP axle back sounds very similar to the Borla S type axle back. So if you want to save some money, the Borla S type axle back would be a good alternative. |

Thanks, I want the GMPP so I don't void my warranty. So before you did the tranny tune the AFM was noticable but not as bad as after the tune.

The tranny tune made the AFM noises more noticeable because of the way the transmission would hold each gear longer. So when I would slow down the transition from V8 to V4 sounded really funny (unmuscle car like). So the AFM had to go. And again, don't worry about your warranty if all your doing is changing your exhaust. |

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Great response to the question on GMPP sound, too. I can't get quite that technical. But I can say that I love the sound and feel of the GMPP. It's not too loud, just sounds great. I think anyone who keeps the stock exhaust system is really missing out on what this car's all about.

Meanwhile, back to the original question, I have a Rotofab cai on my G8 GXP. The air box looks the same as the one on the Camaro.
I bought an Amsoil dry filter for mine. I do not like the oiled K&N type. If you are not careful when you clean them and spray a little too much oil on them or put them back on too soon, oil can get on the maf sensor and throw codes and/or affect engine performance. So, yes there are replacement filters available. I believe that Rotofab now offers a dry element filter as a choice with their intake. Great product by the way. |
