Vitesse Throttle Controller Questions

My friend from Arizona said that he bought one and it is dangerous and his car can't grip at all anymore. My question is, on sp9, is it actually scary, and is there really no traction if you floor it?

Yes and no. I've only had my Vitesse Throttle Controller installed when it's been cold out. So yes, on SP9 with cold tires, it'll spin, let off, spin, let off, spin as if you're on ice. Backing it off to SP1-SP5 solves that problem - the response can be controlled by your right foot. I don't expect it to be a problem on warm pavement.

So, your friend may be experiencing the same thing as me...with cold tires, it's super super touchy. It's only DANGEROUS, traction-wise, if you don't adjust it to your driving and road conditions.

Scary or fun? .. There is a very fine line between the two... and sometimes it's blurry. Especially if you're going fast!

When I first installed my VTC, I did some experimenting. I have a L99 and set the controller on SP09 to see what it would do. Even with nannies on from a dead stop, I punched it hard and the rear wheels did break loose pretty significantly. I think the throttle response at that setting is so instantaneous, the TC/SC have to catch up to engage and stop the madness. If you regularly take off hard (really hard) then I would not recommend ever using SP07-SP09 on the street. Mine stays at SP05 and if I really hit it I will still get a little spin.

I drove home from work the other night in cold rain. 34* on P-Zero's. I set it on SP9, where I typically drive it, and really didn't have any issues at all. I've had the thing for a few weeks, and also have experienced driving in snow with '96 manual cammed Corvette.

The thing to remember, to get used to, is that the sp9 setting makes the throttle alomost completely linear. It's just a matter of a new learning curve on how much throttle to use.

However, since the thing does have different settings, including a 0 setting, it's really a non issue.

I am curious though, if some of the issues of it being "scary" on 9 are more related to automatic cars, as the trans is electronically controlled and I'm sure throttle position has a lot to do with what the transmission "thinks" is going on?

Well if it's "Dangerous" or "Scary" set at 9... either park it or change the setting to a not so "scary" 5.

There are only 50 threads on this topic... wtf

I mean...my tires spin when its cold without a VTC as most of our cars should **i believe**

But on 9 I can only imagine that on cold tires it would be way worse. I've only driven a C6 with the VTC and with that on 9 it wasnt as much scary as it was fun. You can always turn it down though....

There are in fact 30 other threads on this but this is one too so why not ask this here: how do you pronounce "Vitesse?" I'm saying "Veh-tess-ee" is that right? I've only ever read it but I'm installing mine next week. Might be nice to say it correctly...

Yes.

Generally speaking, if the thought of zero lag when you hit the gas scares you... don't buy this product.
