The Chevrolet brand alone outsold the entire Toyota lineup. That includes the Toyota brand, Scion brand, and Lexus brand.

Good to hear. Chrysler corp and GM's core brands had the biggest sales gain.
Whats even more significant is that in May 2009 GM had a better than average month as well. And Toyota was worse than average.

I'm glad to see Toyota falling down the list. Perhaps perceptions have changed?

It would seem as though "old habits die hard..."
GM continues to lead in Incentives, up by over $400/unit from April/10, even though the Overall Industry Average dropped: http://www.autoobserver.com/2010/06/...ates.html#more 3 of every 8 units are Fleet Sales... |

Sales of "the other Four" were less than 2,000 units, and those would have been heavily bonused and discounted at clear-out price$.
As you know, Fleet Sales are tallied at reduced margins for both Manufacturer and Dealer. At one time, they were considered as "filler" but, with 3/8 of Sales now slanted that way along with chart-topping incentives on Retail units, it would indicate that even with as much capacity as has been reduced, more may need to be "rationalized". Certainly, they're building considerably more than they can "retail" which, after all, is where the "real" money is. No/low margin product does not guarantee a bright shiny future. That's supposedly what cost Pontiac it's future... There's still quite a few Douglas Firs to pass through before they're outta the forest... |
