Z/28 should be on sale in Spring, not "late 2011"!

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/08/2...e-loses-120-p/

Just read the thread arguing about releasing the Z/28 early 2011 instead of late 2011 and I agree. Notwithstanding feasibility concerns, the argument that a late release is better for sales is BS.

Check out link above: 2011 Shelby GT500 will be on sale in Spring for delivery in Summer. What, do you think Ford is stupid? There's a reason why they're making a profit (despite Mustangs being outsold by Camaros), and GM is not. Obviously Ford knows how to release a car properly.

I didn't know Nissan licensed the Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) process from Ford for use on the GT-R.

Who told you GM was not profiting? You are sadly misinformed......

Ford released this car half at a time...the style in '10, and the powertrain in '11. I'm sure there's more than a few Mustang enthusiasts who feel shafted because of this. Not to mention, GM managed to design, engineer a build a car from scratch in just a hair over two years. One of the fastest turnarounds they've ever achieved...why is Ford's release strategy so superior?

Let them take their time to build it absolutely right...I have a feeling it will be multiple times worth the wait. Plus, it's a non-essential "extra" car. Low sales volume means it's not as important as say...an SS, or LT.

Its my understanding that feasibility is THE reason for late 2011. They'd be selling them today if they could.

fair enough, but let's just not perpetuate the lame argument that it's "better" for sales to release late in the year, especially for a sports car. That's garbage, and clearly refuted by the success of the 2010 Camaro sales every single month until now.

well how many more people ordered after the car came out? how many people ordered the car during the winter knowing they weren't going to see the car until sometime the following year? seriously I see a late 2011 (fall/winter) release not a bad idea. If that's the amount of time they need to get the car right. if it takes less time to get it right then it will be out sooner then later. but think for a min. hardcore enthusiasts will eat up the car during the winter months. also southern people will be more likely to buy during the winter then northern people. people will start seeing these cars on the road and it will drag them into the dealers again like the 2010 did. carrying the camaro sales higher due to demand being stretched out. why be so negative to a winter release of a HIPO car?

Actually, Ford sold more Mustangs in 2009 than GM did Camaro's (66,623 to 61,618). Granted, the Camaro was only on-sale for 9 of the 12 months, but it's still the way the numbers will go in the record books.

What will be interesting is how the 2011 MY sales turn out. Camaros will likely continue to be in high demand and the Mustang has new powertrains. Time will tell.

Every month the Camaro was available it outsold the Mustang last year and every month this year so far.

Correct. That still does not change the fact that Ford sold more Mustangs in 2009 that GM did Camaros. YTD 2010, GM has sold more Camaros than Ford has Mustangs.

Yeah but you have to admit 2010 was a down year for Mustang sales. 66k isn't good.

The bottom line is GM needs to get a Z/28 out ASAP. It's clear the Camaro is a hot car and they need to add more flavors to keep the hype going. The 5.0 and V6 Mustangs are making a lot of noise respectively and we haven't even got to the 2011 GT500 yet.

I'd still say its better to release it in late 2011 than early 2012.
