GM Please keep the "SKIP-SHIFT" out of the ZL1!!!!

Who's with me on this one! I can't stand skip shift and hope they leave it out of the mighty ZL1 altogether. If they include it, I'll have to pick up the Eliminator right away. It was one of my first mods on my fourth gen.

I would rather have them put it in and hopefully save some MPGs so I don't have to pay a gas guzzler tax like the Challengers do, and then pick up a skip shift kit like I did for the SS. Pay $1XXX to the gov't because of MPG's or spend $30 and get an icon that pops up for a few secs and means nothing anymore.

Nobody likes it, including GM I'm sure, although I have never had an issue with it. It's very easy to drive around it.

When you get your ZL1 tuned get skip shift disabled, if you are afraid of losing warranty with a non-GM tune, just ask the tech at GM to disable it out for you. Simple, no hardware, no error lights, no hassles and no BS government money grabs

This is the correct answer.

DING! DING! DING!...GM has NOTHING to do with this beyond engineering a fix that keeps the CAFE Dogs off their butts and the Gas Guzzler tax off the sticker. Don't like it: VOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO CONTROL EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE (good luck with that).

Just buy the auto transmission version. No skip shift in there, but a higher guzzler tax.

The CAGS (Computer Aided Gear Selection), or 1-4 "skip-shift," "feature" is employed to help meet Federal CAFE standards and avoid the gas guzzler tax. As with most things in life, trade offs are involved. One can have the CAGS system or pay the gas guzzler tax. I'll take the CAGS system since, as mentioned, it is very easy to drive around. I rarely, if ever, experience its effects.

The actual CAGS algorithm employed depends on the specific application. However, a typical CAGS application will occur under conditions similar to the following:

The engine temperature is above 169 degrees F.
The vehicle speed is between 15 and 19 MPH.
The engine RPMs are between 1500 and 2500 (some algorithms use a throttle percentage)

If one doesn't shift out of first gear under light throttle (under 2500 RPM or under the maximum throttle percentage at which CAGS engages), one will never experience CAGS.

Thanks, I know why the CAGS is in the car, and as I said I'm sure GM doesn't like it being there either, but they got to do what they got to do. In the end, it really is no big deal as we have both stated it is very easy to avoid.

Gas Guzzler tax is how much on a $50K+ car???
