Crooked valvespring?
I'm currently installing the PAC 1218 springs and it looks like one is slightly Crooked when installed. Ive tried reseating it but it still looks the same. It's very very slight but is this a cause for concern?

=1 pics...and make sure you show what valve spring compressor your using...when I did mine I used a double spring compressor and couple of times when crankin down it got a little off...obvious when the valve tip looked like it wasn't gonna come up thru the retainer...back it back down..adj..all good...

Here is the valve
Also, I noticed on the first step two valve that one valve is ever so slightly forward of the other. Will these settle or what? |

I notice in this pic that you have an air compressor hooked up into a cylinder and you appear to be swapping your valve springs. You also have some loose rockers. Just as an FYI, you dont want to turn the motor over (by crank or by air compressor force) when your rockers/pushrods are loose on the head. Your pushrods could push into the rocker at a bad angle and cause them to bind or get damaged. Those trunions are known for failing and scattering needle bearings throughout the motor. Good luck. Btw, the spring without a rocker, looks fine. |

I have the same issue. Put mine together and its running. Is that the passenger side by chance. It was as if the casting seat was off. Looks more like a crooked rocker not a spring.

That is a damaged rocker pedestal..cheap to replace..if more that 50% of the rocker tip is on the valve tip(hopefully more) then should be O.K. but again, I am sure you are like me and want to get it right the first time...save potential ag l8tr....peace out...

The LS3 heads have an offset intake valve. They are supposed to be crooked. Is that what you are talking about?

Look at the rocker itself, it is not sitting parallel to the rocker pedestal...ergo the rocker pedestal is off...replace...

I have one rocker that the casting it sits in is actually crooked making the rocker crooked like his in the picture. I assumed GM has a tolerance so I didnt check into to it further but now I am questioning it. Ill tear into it when I have time and post a picture. Might be a while. Have a lot on my plate right now.

Something like that may help locate the rockers better. They have a version for ARP bolts also. Spring wise I would just double check that the correct retainers, locks, and spring seats were used. I'd call the supplier you used and have a different person just double check.... you sure these are the right seats and retainers... If all is correct, make sure they were shimmed to the correct install height. No coil bind or interference with valve seal/inner spring if duals. And I would make sure you are using the service manual procedure for what rocker bolts to tq when on #1 compression TDC. You do half the rockers tq'd, then rotate the crank 360, and do the other half. Don't want to be loosening or tightening on a rocker that is not on base circle. |
