Forgot to note, a catch can will also help with oil situation as Tracy mentioned. I believe a catch can should be the first thing anyone should grab. We know how much oil these cars can grab through the intake than down to the valves down the road. Cheap assurance for long trouble free operation that's for sure. we put over 10k on our project 5.0 and with the catch can our TB/intake/IM been dried as desert sand!

Good to hear, no doubt this was a freak accident, but it happened nonetheless. It also could be a stretch calling it a freak accident because these cars are just over 3 years old and there are only so many manifolds out there with only so many miles logged on them.

My best guesses for the cause of this are either having a lowered car in NY or the seafoam treatment I did seeped into the filling and loosened it. Our roads are BRUTAL here, arguably some of the worst in the country based on many surveys. Enough bumps + the increased stress from having the car lowered could definitely dislodge something like this. But like you said MACE it probably happened when it was being put on.

Either way, its a small area and shouldn't be difficult to weld it up instead. I think its worth the extra effort and should 100% eliminate anything like this happening again.

Makes for a pretty damn good story too lol, "Remember the time that giant piece of filling almost got sucked into your cylinder?"

This must be soaked in solvent (brake clean works fine) to make sure all the soaked in oil is extracted. Then the proper industrial filler would break the aluminum before coming loose. This looks like a freak occurrence as we have seen hundreds and hundreds over the past few years and never seen any come loose.

The main thing is it was large enough to lodge where it did and is an easy fix and this FINALLY solves the misfire issue!

Mace is standing behind the work as always and this allows the process to be improved.

I bought a brand new manifold from GMParts and sent it to Jay for the work, so I guess I won't have to worry about any residue.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I just took off my intake manifold to figure out why 5k rpm's the car would lose power and shake like crazy... and stuck in the intake mani for cyl 5 that little piece was jammed in there

I'm actually very relieved lol. Thought it was a much larger issue... I remember hitting a bump on the way to ocean city md and hearing something in the engine bay rattle. Thought nothing of it. But like i said, i could not go past 5k rpm's

Odd that we both had it get sucked into the same runner as well.

This definitely warrants a design change!

Now 2 units doing this.

Between this, and GM investigating random V6s bursting into flames....sure gives me a good feeling about my car lol.

That said....I have a ton of respect and trust for Jay (bmorecam...now of MACE). Great guy, but it still gets in your mind you know.
