I also had the same dilemma between an 05 vet 3lt and the new camaro. I believe im going with the camaro because i see myself needing a back seat in a few years for a childs seat. I dont want to buy a vette just to have to turn around and sell it in a year or two when i have a kid.

The LS3 in the vette is 435 hp. right?? Im really still undecided. I got until the middle of this month to decide, cause if Im getting a 'maro, Im gonna order it so i can have it by March. Camaro is more practical. Parts would be cheaper for repair. It would also lose more value than a used corvette. My wife will let me get whatever I want. We could afford a brand new Z06 but I would feel guilty getting that, so thats out of the question. Either $30K-$35K '05 or '06 vette, or a $30K-$35K '10 Camaro.

the 3ls vette i looked at was an 05 with 460 RHP with 6k miles on it. i know once i drive the camaro im going to with i had the vette engine but i cant do the 2 seats so like you said it is more practical to get the camaro and thats why i believe, not 100% tho, that im going to get the new SS

Wait untill pricing is released. If the camaro is priced like a mustang.. go camaro... if its hitting used vette territory 32+k... then go vette... Unless you need the backseat.
Im in the same situation.. backseat is a non issue, just me and the wife, we both currently have regular cab trucks, no back seat now.. no back seat needed (never having kids). SO at this point for me its all dependant on pricing.

I think thats a good plan. I'll go ahead and order a Camaro. Then in January if pricing too much in 'vette territory, I'll just cancel the order, and start looking for a vette. Im kinda hoping I can get a 2SS for about $30K. That seems feasible.

The 08 on C6 vette drives so much better than the previous (more HP, better shifting, better steering), it almost makes them obsolete.
Go with the Camaro. |

You can get a brand new 2008 Corvette cheap. Some are sold for $39,995. None are stripped, they all have decent equipment. Just no side air bags on the entry 1LT model. Start at 2LT. But, they may try to screw you on financing, and/or trade-in value. I'm going to sell my trades, and get outside financing, so I just hand the dealer a check. Corvette weighs 3217lbs, Camaro 3960lbs. One of the bigger differences. Near same horsepower from LS3. I want both Camaro and Corvette. Time will tell.

To the OP on this I would think seriously about what you want out of the car. They are going to be two totally different applications. The vette is more refined in almost every way HOWEVER you are talking about a 4-5 model year old vette by the time you purchase and it doesn't seem like the right choice. Right now you can get an 09 vette coupe from the dealer for 39,999 with the 1lt package and around 48k for the 3lt pkg. They will deal on the leftover 08s even more since they are drowning in them.
With that said the 2008 used market for a 3lt is in the 35k range already. Since the updated 2008 has the LS3 it has pushed the LS2 2007 and older models really far down in resale. You can pick up a 2007 Ls2 used for around 32k now if not cheaper depending on the mileage. There is no reason to look back to an 05 or 06 model. By mid next year when you want to compare the two you shouldn't even be looking at used LS2's anymore, you WILL NOT be happy knowing you bought a poor resale dying technology car. My recomendation is in June 2009 only look at used 2008 coupe which will be in the low 30's which should be the same as the Camaro SS. I am on the fence with this too. I want the vette and the fiannce knows this but she thinks cars are a total waste of $ and even though I can totally afford a vette now she "suggested" that the $ would go a long way in the beginning of our marriage rather then having it tied up in a vette. And I can't really argue that. So I am waiting until after we are married to revisit this. Which is July 3rd next year. At this point I will check out the G8 GXP, Camaro SS, and used 06/07 Z06 vettes. I feel for you but it is a tough choice. Just don't go LS2 you will regret it in a matter of months |

I am in the same boat. I was pretty upset when the new Camaro didn't have 505HP or a supercharged motor. I started thinking used 2008 Z06 in Jet Stream blue. I planned on spending $50,000 on the big dog Camaro I can get a Z06 used for another $5,000. The new Camaro is a nice car but it is missing the power! I don't want to get killed by a Shelby. I am not sure what I am going to do. I have driven a new Z06 and I have to say it is very very nice. If you are after power go Z06. if you are after good power and a great car go new Camaro. Just my thoughts. Jeff

I just thought of something, you must remember to add in the almost expected "corvette Tax" that every body shop, tuner, mechanics shop, and any other shop you can think of is going to add onto the price of working on your car. The way they look at it is this, if you can afford a vette, then you can afford to pay a little more for that oil change... Trust me it happens all the time, and it sucks! It's a harsh reality out there, and vette guys usually take it up the a$$, or work on their own.

Normally i'd say vette however in this case you never know what little surprises you could have in the future and you may need those backseats (small as they are) Also, wouldnt you rather a brand new car with nice power and more safety features? (and its all yours no other owner)
