Mods to V6
How much HP do you think I would get up to with a cold air intake and a cat back exhaust as well as a tune?
and secondly what do you think the MPG would be after doing this, i wanna get more power but gas is killer these days. thanks |

I give it 340 HP
MPG should stay the same but the Cat back might give you a couple extra gallons

Sounds about accurate. No way to really tell until the parts come out. There seems to be some potential for the V6. The 3.6L DI, VVT V6 sounds like it's going to be pretty responsive to mods. But again no real way in telling until it comes out, and then the mods for it come out.
I know I'm thinking of getting the V6. If I wanted the power of an SS, I'd be better of getting the SS. (Which I do of course!) But if doing some light mods, and maybe converting to F.I later down the road, may be the way to go. All I can say is by the time I plan on purchasing a Camaro LT I would hope to see this out for it. Cat-back exhaust. (not just by GMPP) High flow cat Headers tune, (or tuning available from HP Tuners) Cold Air Intake & it'd be sweet to see a supercharger or turbo kit available just to see...

If getting headers, cat-back, CAI, high flow cat, and a tune cost around what the difference between a V6 and V8 is (I hope not) but yeah I'd get an SS. I'm not getting one until later in the summer so I'm just going to see what's out. But I'm sure the price gap between the V6 and V8 will be more than all of those items mentioned will cost.

they have already done a CAI and catback on the V-6, i believe it was untuned and gained approx 30hp
keeping the stock exhaust manifolds but switching the catback portion of the exhaust and opening up the intake is about the only modification that you can do that will give you a boost in power and mpg. stock air/exhaust systems are so restrictive its not even funny. with CAI/catback/dyno tune i would imagine you could squeeze about 50 hp if you do it right.

yeah. I kind of meant for the GMPP stuff. I agree. If it's not something you feel like you can do yourself, or that someone can do it with a warranty, or you just like to pay other people to do work on your car for you, there's no shame in not working on your car yourself. And unless it's something that comes with the car from the factory but not installed or is a repair under warranty, F the dealer. Typically their service rates are 30-60% higher for the shop. And they're usually crooks anyway. The local chevy dealer here tried to charge my dad for an oil cap on his car that he bought from them, which didn't have the oil cap. One of those things you just kind of assume I guess, but they wanted the 70 bucks for it an, get this, labor.

It was 31 RWHP from a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust, no tune. More specifically, 18 hp and 13 tq from the cat back (not sure if the GMPP version will match this, as its just axle back) and 13 hp and 6 tq from the intake. Replace all four cats with high flowers and get the GMPP headers, and then tune it, and you'll be putting down some impressive numbers for sure, at least for a V6. On a related note, the supercharger kit from D3 (the makers of the intake and exhaust) also looks like it may fit on the camaro. That is yet to be seen though. Personally, I think STS better come out with a twin turbo kit.
