Short shifters in general
I was super interested and was probably going to purchase a hurst short shifter kit until I was reading about others here on the forum. The difference I see is quality of metals and such but mainly a "full kit shifter" or a "shaft replacement" shifter. Thing is it seems like I need a lift to do either of these. Anyone can recognize the price difference as well. So my question to you Camaro5 family, is it really worth going for the full blown short shifter? I took an interest to MGW's but it's $350 I understand and can see that most are going to say "you have to pay to play" blah blah blah. Let's break this down here though...what would I use it for? I drove a Camaro with a hurst and it just felt more convenient. I don't race on the street or at the track. So for "convenience" what would you go with?

I got the hurst shifter, installed it without a lift.
I also bought new bushings, made it tighter. I have been miss shifting more though. Still getting used to it |

The thought of having the car on jack stands scares the shit out of me...I turned wrenches for some years and I guess I just got used to a lift

Don't get me wrong, I take my car to the life on base whenever I can. Just saying a lift isn't required

I gotcha...I have a lift available but only every 2 weekends..how long would you say the install takes? Having the car in the air

I take my time because working on my car is so fun.
But I'd say 2 hours start to finish |

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=217080 It's a little long winded, and I need to add more pictures, but it works like a charm. Skip straight to Method B. Cool on the bracket! Glad you (and others) like it! |

If you just don't want to mess with it, have your dealer install the GM part. I ordered it on my car and it works just fine. I installed a TWM on my Speed3 and it was very high quality. That application didn't require any work under the car, just removal of the center console.
