What tires do you run on your SS?
My car: 2010 2SS, 20" rims with 245/45/20 front and 275/40/20 rear.
The car still has its original Pirelli P Zero tires and they are in bad shape. What do all of you replace your original Pirelli's with? New Pirelli's or something comparable or better? I've been looking at General Tires, G-Max RS front and rear. Proper heat range, load ratio, are ZR tires, etc. The General Tires have a higher tread wear rating. Pirelli's are something like 220 and General are in mid 300 range, I believe. So this probably tells me that the Pirelli's are softer rubber than the General's? Do any of you run these General Tires? Or stick to original Pirelli's, or something else? Thanks for any insight! |

For better or worse (that’ll get some opinions) I have ‘re-tired’ once and went Pirelli Nero’s on the rear and original P-zero’s up front. Had a flat two weeks ago and had to use that bullshit system in the trunk but...observed two things. The front P zeros are not run-flat but did a great job of saving my MRR wheel even though it was completely deflated. The tire was shot but the goo and pump got me home. But I was close when it happened.
So, if you want to maintain original performance, go with P Zero. But you will pay for the privilege. : /

I should point out that I had to replace the rears first. Just bought the front P zeros. Imagine that!

I run P zeros. 275 up front. 305 out back. They are soft. Milage wear is fast but they sure do grab above 45 degrees.

since I only have the lowly V6, no Power like those v8's, I run the Bridgestone Duelers hp
275 40 20 up front and 315 35 20's on back also they are run flats so don't have to worry about Flats

I previously had some Continental Extreme DWS tires that did well. I recently put some Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's on and they're nice so far. Don't hook up too well on a cammed SS if launching from first, but it could be that I only have a couple hundred miles on them so far and they need to still break in.

Nitto 555r 305s drag radials out back. Falken Aziens 255s on the front. I have the matching Falken Aziens in 295s for the rear in the basement.

I run square 275/40/20 with yokohama s-drives on the street great for rain and 300 tread wear. American racing 922 9 inch wide 10 mm offset

Then went with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 - 245/45/20 front and 275/40/20 rears. Nice Tires! Then got me some wider tires after I bought my wheels with Nitto NT05 - 275's up front, 315 for rears. Then went with Nitto NT555 G2's - same size as the NT05's - after the NT05's gave me a bit of a scare in the rain. I wanted a better looking tire, with better treading and the Tire Gods answered my prayers. These tires run about 250 each and they've been great on my end... even in the rain. With the NT05's I could start feeling hydroplaning on a med/light rain above 60mph. With the NT555 G2's no hydroplaning, even above 80mph. I'm on my second set of NT555 G2's. I will get a 3rd set.
