Value

Any opinions on what a 73 Type LT that needs a full restoration is worth? Mostly original (engine drivetrain all numbers matching) but lots of rust. Frame rails are solid in rear. Needs everything. My friend bought this car in 74 and put it in a garage in 86. He is thinking of selling it. Wondering what he should expect to get for it. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll get you more info.

I am buying it. I'll have a second gen in the garage hopefully next weekend. I hope the ZL1 doesn't scare his older brother.

Cars like this one Dan are in the eyes of the beholder when it comes to value. Just from pics I'd say 1000 or lower and that's only because of what the car it once was. I'm glad your getting this poor girl out of the dungeon and were she should be. In a nice dry garage with guys drooling over her.
Congrats on your new family member.

That's awesome Dan! Any hints on your plans for it? Color, engine, etc? That is going to be a great car.

This is the car I grew up with. My friend bought it in 1974. He bought an IROC in 86 and put the car in his aunt's garage. That is where it still is. So, it's about the history and my connection to it. I fell in love with Camaro's because of THIS car. Not one like it, but this actual car. It has had some minor work done it back in the 70's (new springs and some paint) but other than that, it is the same car as I remember.

I plan to get it back to a driver that is the same as it was then. Not a perfect restoration for shows, but back to the way it was in the mid 70's when I rode in it every day.

I am going to trying to get it back to exactly the way it was, including the color. Now clones, no upgrades. Just a regular old 73 Type LT, just brought back to new I hope.

This is a very long project and there goes my mod money for the ZL1, but my son in laws are already excited about it! That's the key, a great family hobby in a great hobby. I can't wait for you all to see it.

This is way more than a winter project.

If you've never done something like this before, be careful how you go about it. Just from the few pics you have of it, this car is in extremely rough shape and it is easy to get in over your head very quickly. Those are the types of projects that people start and never finish, so they end up selling the uncompleted car for pennies on the dollar after they have had enough.

Just body repair and panel replacement is going to be well over $10k for you. If you have skills with that stuff, you will be able to keep it under $20k for that part of the project.

If you've never done this type of thing before, getting a solid body is usually the most important thing and I would also be very afraid of what is under that vinyl roof.

Whatever you think the project will cost you... Double it

However long you expect it to take you... Triple it

Once it's finished.. you will probably be vested into it for at least double of what it's actual value will be when done

Now with all that crappy stuff said............. Enjoy the whole process and take lots of pics along the way and NEVER ADD YOUR RECEIPTS!!!

As a man much wiser than me once said, "If you build a car and you make money selling it..... then you're doing it wrong"
