As far as I know, the only relevant PC is the 7424 XP. PC is just a brand (porter cable).

Now, there are other dual action polishers by other companies. I'd recommend the Griots Garage 6". Its the same thing as a PC with a slightly stronger motor. I personally use a PC, but I'd buy a Griots today if I had to replace the PC.

Both are super safe and effective.

The Griots machine is made in China. So are the newer Porter Cables.

I've said it before and I'll continue to say it...the people who are always stumping to "buy American!! " have no concept of economics. As somebody who holds two advanced degrees in the area, I feel comfortable saying that.

Also, who do you think is gonna do a better job? The Asian laborer getting paid by the unit trying to scrape by for their family, or Jeb getting paid $32.50 an hour to turn a wrench, knowing that no matter what he does his job is secured by his union contract?

There are a few things I don't want done by an American: tech support, medical practice, and unskilled labor.

I also can't read the statement "only buy American" without pronouncing it 'Uh-murr-ican' like a complete redneck in my head.

There you go guys, flame away. Truth hurts.

WAIT! You only use a PC?!?! Ok, thats the machine I'm getting. I was thinking I would need a rupes or some expensive stuff. I have been stuck in limbo for two moths thinking if I should save up. Just thought I would need a rupes to "professionally" detail cars. But cool, 200 bucks instead of 485 bucks sounds good to me! with everything included.

PC is more than capable. It just takes a little longer than the more powerful machines.

Nope I agree and the fact that it is a global economy which will never change. I have no problem with buying Chinese made products that are worth it due to their price. Now something like steel where there is a huge quality difference yeah I understand, but for everyday products where I would prefer not to pay double or triple, yeah China it is. And take a look at cost/benefit and you'll see a trend in factories moving back to the U.S. due to rising Chinese wages as well as shipping/taxes, etc...

Griot's does come with a lifetime warranty starting with the 2nd gen was designed to be a polisher first rather than a sander, so I'd recommend it over the PC even though I have the PC. Plus the more power can come in handy over curved panels and such, but technique trumps equipment.
