Anyone having awful grinding sounds when making sharp turns??

I noticed the other day while going around a round about that I heard a grinding sound or scrape. Instantly I thought I hit something and screwed my front end. After looking it over there was no noticeable damages and I shrugged it off. Later that afternoon I heard it again on a sharp left turn. I immediately took it to the closest empty parking lot and did figure 8s and sure enough about every turn and a half I hear a grinding sound.

I took the car to the dealership to have it checked out and they heard it aswell and ordered replacement fluid for the stabletrack system. Just curious if anyone else has experienced it and what the dealerships have said or done to fix it?

sounds like the clutches in the rear "posi" unit. The clutches are very aggressive in the ZL1 and will moan and growl when making tight turns. The fluid swap should fix it. They must use a specific fluid for the ZL1.

That makes me feel better. It sounds like its coming from the front end but really hard to tell. Any issues diving it this way until I get the fluid swap?

The 5th Gen differential uses a GM slip additive. My guess is they are going to add more slip additive. I wouldn't spend the day at a road course or drag strip but see no reason why you can't drive normally.

I appreciate what you guys are saying about the rear end, but what does that have to do with stabiltrack. Also what fluid would the stabiltrack use that would need to be changed. I thought the stabiltrack worked off the brake system.

I just asked the dealership exactly what they were doing so I can clarify here. They are infact adding the gm LS gear oil. I must have heard wrong when they mentioned the stabletrack

Did the goofballs at the dealer remove the shipping blocks from the suspension?

The rear end clutch's usually produce more of a mild thumping while turning as they are trying to grab. You can tell it is coming from the rear. A grinding noise sounds like something else.

Thumping Noise

I've noticed mine only tends to do this on colder days.

I had a similar problem, when turning out of a driveway etc.,I thought it was the brakes grinding at first. the dealer acknowledge the problem and installed a GM additive( I think there was a TSB out on it.) and I haven't heard it since. Not sure how long it will last or is this some sort of a yearly maintenance thing to replace rear axle fluid.

What are "those in the know" thoughts about using Royal Purple 75W-90 WITH FRICTION ADDITIVE upc Code 01300 in these differentials?
