Blind spot and changing lanes.

So let me start by saying that I waited 3 years to get this car and I'm in love with it so I'm beyond cautious with it and I expect some of this to wear off when I get used to it and some of the newness wears off. However I am so paranoid when switching lanes that I'm not going to see someone and smack right into them cuz I'm not used to the blind spots from the small windows and how much the back end protrudes out. I think I've got my side mirrors in good positions and I use them alot. I turn my head around a look before I go after checking the mirrors but all the while I'm afraid someone is going to be there. This is made worse by the fact that a few weeks before I got this car I almost smack right into someone passing a slow poke in my firebird but I just glanced at the mirror and gunned it and then there he was but luckily he saw me and the left lane was open. So I'm driving less aggressive for now based on the new car and the previous near miss but I can't help myself too much when I run into some idiot driving slow in the fast lane or a group of idiots pacing each other. So how do you deal with lane switches and just the blind spot in general? How confident are you now and how long did it take you to get there?

What blind spots???? I know this car is low and very small windowed and big butted but u can adjust ur mirrors to avoid have a blind spot and always check over ur shoulder before switich lanes to double check cause it only takes one second to look away from ur mirror and someone to fill that spot right up.

I only post this because most people don't have their mirrors adjusted properly. Not saying that you are guilty of this, just the simplest to correct if it is.

Adjusting the mirrors properly should leave basically zero blind spots on your sides.

For the drivers side, lean you head next to the window and move the mirror so that you can barely see the rear shoulder of the car.

For the passenger side, put your head in the middle of the cabin and then adjust the same as before.

That will get you very close.

I can literally see a vehicle phasing out of the view of my rear view mirror and into view of my side mirrors now. Once the vehicle pulls up next to me and out of view from my side mirrors, I can now see them coming into view from my side windows.

So again...proper setup should basically eliminate your blind spots.

I understand the concern. One of the first things you learn in drivers ed is to not rely on mirrors.... you should always look over your shoulder. In the Camaro, and the Challenger as well, when you look over your right shoulder you see nothing and it's disconcerting. However, if you adjust your mirrors as shown above, you'll get used to it. The Cadillac CTS Coupe has the same issue and for 2012 they installed blind-spot indicators in the mirrors.

The Camaro is easy to drive if the mirrors are positioned correctly. You should *barely* see the body in your side mirrors. Once you have them adjusted, just be aware of your surroundings at all times by monitoring the rear view and side mirrors alot. You should never have to look over your shoulder and behind you while driving. If you do this alot, you are not paying attention enough......

That's what I love about my convertible... blind spots disappear when the top is down . But I have gotten used to using the side mirrors because I have the DVD player in my Trailblazer and that eliminates the use of the rear view mirror so having the side mirrors adjusted properly is key.

I LOL'd. But really, just adjust your mirrors so that as the other vehicle leaves the rear view mirror it becomes visible in the side view mirror, after that it's right next to you. I know people adjust their mirrors so they are staring down the side of the car, that's not gonna help ya!
