Tire Pressure

Sorry if this is the wrong section...

My question is regarding tire pressure. I have 20" stock wheels. The sticker in the door says keep them at 36 lb for cold temperature. We are in the 100's outside and when I drive, the tire pressure monitor in the car says the wheels are getting up to 40-41 lbs! Is this normal?
I asked our local tire store chain and they tried to sell me tires instead of answering the question
Never had tires get over 40 lbs before, then again never had 20" wheels either

Normal. Driving increases the tire temperature, which increases the tire pressure. Like you said, 36 psi is the cold pressure. This is pressure you should have if the car hasn't been driven in a couple hours (out of direct sunlight preferably).

Parking in my garage, my psi reads 36 all around in the morning and builds up to 40-41 front 39-40 rear after an hour of driving in 80°+ temps.

all of the above and I believe the stock tires can handle up to 50-56lbs of air... so you have absolutely nothing to worry about...

Look at getting nitrogen put in your tires...they will keep a more uniform temp and IF a small air leak, with nitrogen the molecules are larger and may not leak...been in airplanes for many years...

Yeah, that's probably pretty normal. Just look at the sidewall of the tire and it should have the maximum pressure listed. As long as you don't exceed that, you're fine.

As far as putting nitrogen in the tires instead of atmospheric air...well, I have a hard time buying into that whole hype. I really believe it's just a way to squeeze another few $$$'s/tire out of the customer. Supposedly the pressure doesn't fluctuate as much as air, but I have yet to see it proven to my satisfaction. I'm just sayin....

and all buyers of cars with 19+ size wheels should beware... TIRE PRESSURE ignorance. Typically I have never run the PSI that the cars recommends... Never. I usually run at least 2-4 below for better and softer ride. IN the Camaro... the Vette.. the CTS-V.... I have literally found that U should stay either on.. or within 1 psi of the door sticker. In the Camaro I experience a rougher ride when the tires were BELOW the 36psi (sticker) number. Why?? Because ever pot-hole I hit.. I could feel because essentially the tires were not pumped up high enuff. My Onstar APP warned me.. and I ignored it at first. I then decided that the "THUMPS" were enuff.. and took it to the dealer. The first thing my tech says is... "How much pressure U running in those tires... they LOOK a lil low." He measured them and came up with 32psi. Put Nitro in them and we went for a spin.. NO THUMPS.. ride is now perfect again. Go figure.

I run 22 psi in the rear, 44 in the fronts. It all depends on your setup
