Has Anyone Supercharged Their Camaro
As the title asks.
In the constant quest for oomph I've been considering fitting a supercharger - expensive but probably the best and cheapest way (in the long term) to get more horses. Can anyone recommend an installer? I've been talking to Monkfish near Milton Keynes - they know their stuff for sure and are particular adept with GM and apparently tune not just the engine but also the automatic gearbox. Their recommendation is the Magnuson MP2300 TVS Supercharger Kit. They reckon that at 6 psi it will add 120+ RWHP ie approx. 1/3rd more. Not the highest BHP provider but provides the extra right through the rev range - it's also the preferred blower fitted by Jannetty Racing; "We have installed and tuned every supercharger on the market for the L99 Camaro and they all make the same Peak Power at 8.5 PSI boost. The Differences are Low End Torque production. The Maggie is the King of Low End Grunt and is the best fit for the L99/LS3 Camaro Corvette etc. The Maggie achieves full boost by 2000 RPM, the Whipple Achieves full boost at 4000 RPM the Vortech Achieves Full boost at Redline for example. So for Fun Factor the Maggie is a Great Choice and has room to grow up to 700+ RWHP on the L99 Car" So... if you know anyone else that has the experience and techie knowledge I'd like to speak to them.

Hello Rick - I was contemplating a Whipple 2.9 litre blower from Janetty; I'm actually in his place next week while we're touring New England. I thought a blower would be killer but then started to think about driveshafts, brakes yaddah yaddah so I've gone for his 485hp bolt-on kit of CAI, long tube headers etc. The feedback for the Whipple is also good, I love that it sits under the bonnet/hood so neatly. Might be next on my wishlist too....
What does UKBlownSS Trevor have on his?....... |

Hey Rick
I fitted a vortech unit and live it. Pretty simple to install and as it doesn't build as much boost down low it spools up like a turbo and sounds bad as. And you keep some traction down low were you need it. |

My set up is a Whipple with meth injection. I chose the Whipple because it sounds like... well you know. ! Mine makes over 675 RWHP ,about 800 at the flywheel. No worries so far with the driveline or brakes, IAT's are kept down by the chargecooler and meth kit. 15 psi max boost, also headers,de-cat and fuel upgrades. Also solid subframe mounts and all rear arms / bushings needed in my experience. Still returns the same or better MPG at a steady 80mph. I did a lot of soul searching too but wouldn't have it any other way now.

Depends what they are claiming and whether it's at the flywheel (manufacturer style) or at the wheels RWHP. Chevvy claim 400 hp for the L99, RWHP will be around 340. I'm on a Dyno on Monday morning so we'll see what mine makes. It also depends what pressure they're run at as far as I can tell. I've had a long informative conversation with Monkfish near Milton Keynes - they really know their stuff (especially GM) but ain't cheap.

I'll let you know Monday - stock L99 except for CAI and no back boxes.
That Whipple graph shows RWHP approx 575 but only at peak revs - just before the valves explode and the con rods fly through the side of the block!

You considered this Rick? Caught my eye a few weeks ago.
Read the small print; good power gains. Yep, lag, yep, no nice blower-whine but the gain..... http://www.jreperformanceparts.com/2...turbo-kit.html |

2013 HWE, Scott also has a Whipple, he had his tuned up Doncaster way but I don't know what the outcome was. I do know that the standard canned tune it came with ran lean. His is L99 . I would fit one if anyone was interested ,but I realise I am geographically challenged for most of you.
