Catch Can question

What does this actually do for the car? Is it needed on the V-6?
Thanks,

You can search here and get the best explanation, but in a nutshell it keeps oil and condensation from being pushed back into the intake tract.
Is it needed? I don't know. The intake is supposed to be a dry, air-only setup. There's no fuel that goes through it so I can't see letting oil go through it.

My can had about 6 ounces in it between oil changes.
