Curving down Camaro's weight...
I'm waiting to get hold on the new ''european'' version of the Camaro SS, first mod will certainly be to drop whatever unnecessary weight from the car, staring from A/C, power windows, the whole interior, rear seats, steel front/rear and doors bars, lighter exhaust sistem, etc.
I'd love to read the experiences of those who have eventually put their Camaros on a hard diet and the results in terms of weight savings. Also, I'd like to have links where to by online perspex windshields and possibly lightweight body parts. You might have noticed I'm new here but I'm not new on these kind of mods, I have a fully modded C3 Vette weighting exactly 1.260kgs (from about 1.650kgs...). ...and an under 1.000kgs Tvr Griffith 500... |

I do at every crosslight..
Seriously, I raced the vette twice in a hillclimb track, well, just to promote my company venting a big flag on my going up and driving the pubblic crazy with its thunderous rumble, there is nothing like getting the applause of the people by the road when you drive down the hill, it was fun... The vette is seriously quick anyway, apart from it's lightweight she enjoys of the push of the 575hp of an 'American Speed' SB engine and has a 4.11 rear gears on a 4 speeds manual stick. |

There have been many threads started by members who were going to "put their Camaros on a diet".
I haven't seen the results of anyone actually doing it, though. I think in the end, people still want to drive the car every day, have a radio, a/c, seating for friends on occasion.................and windows. So you can be the first, but it looks, based on your Corvette, you might go through with it.

I took about 700 lbs (320 kg) out of my 1998 camaro SS that I would daily drive and drag race. I am lightening up my convertible also, but nothing as extreme as my 98. I have taken about 230 lbs out of my car so far.

30 lbs by swapping to a race weight battery
7 lbs remove flat tire kit & foam insert 5 lbs remove engine cover 75 lbs only fill tank with 5 gallons of gas instead of full tank 66 lbs swapping 20 RS wheels for 18" Forgestar 41 lbs swapping stock exhaust for XSPower complete kit 3 lbs swap from stock to ASP pulley 3 lbs (just a guess) swapping stock bushings to BMR polyurethane 230 lbs total By far the biggest difference was the wheels. Reducing rotating weight has an exponential effect as opposed to reducing dead weight. It felt like i took 300 lbs out of the car. The wheels are also 2" shorter up front and 1.5" shorter out back so that helps rolling resistance and is like a mini gear swap. I was going to buy Racing Brake rotors to save another 24 lbs but just can't drop 2 grand on them.
