I used to work at "quick lube" place. The rule of thumb was when the oil went from a solid stream, to a partial stream, put the plug back in and start filling with oil 1 quart lower than the manuf. spec. It takes longer than a few minutes for all of the oil to drain out.

Just one other FYI -- look at the oil pan when the car is on the ramps. I bet there is 1/2 quart of oil sitting in the pan behind the plug. I use 4 jack stands to keep it level.

.

Makes me wonder if the dealership is any better. I mean the faster a mechanic gets done with a job the more money he makes. I used to change the oil on my fourth gen, and I hadn't planned on doing the 5th gen, but I may have to after reading this.

I am having a really hard finding anyone here in Canada that sells Mobil1 filters. Everyone has the oil, so that is no problem. I think I will just go with the AC Delco filter.

Well, my AP-04 plug still hasn't arrived. I have lost hope. Local parts store has them made by Oil Tite. Information isn't new enough for 2010's. The closest one is an M12X1.75 thread size. The site the AP-04 comes from doesn't list the thread size. Can any one confirm what size plug goes into the V8s?

Does the computer automatically reset itself when you do your own oil change? I thought the dealer might do something to the computer and that's why I'd have to bring it in, but hell, if I can do it myself, I will.

You can reset the oil life monitor yourself by pushing and holding the "set" button I believe. You do not have to bring it into the dealer to do this.

Procedure is in the manual.
I think you turn on the ignition, then pump the gas pedal 6 or 7 times to reset the oil life.

i heard about the filtermag and the plug already.
i havent looked under the car in detail yet, so ill take strobi's word that the filtermag for my v6 is not needed.
but i never heard of the catch can, n have no idea where that is supposed to go.

Where would that go on a v6? any mini writeup for installing one of those?

I think there are pictures in this very same thread about the filter for the V6. They are not the spin on type. No real place for a filter magnet that I know of.
