1LE Axle Boot Issue

This is here because we have unique/bastard (SS/ZL1) axle set-up.

Anyone with an 1LE having issues with the axle boots leaking grease?

I have had both LH and RH outer boot, outer clamp allow grease to get out of the boot and then it spits out on the suspension components, ABS wiring, Brake line and then inside of the wheel. Both axles were replaced in the fall of 2014 and I just found it again on the LH axle. (NO, the boots are not torn or damaged.....it is 100% leaking past the clamp and out the end of the boot)

My plan is to replace the factory non-adjustable boot clamp with a aftermarket adjustable one to synch it down...

Any other 1LE owners having this issue?

I have 15k right now. I believe it was around 13.5k when I noticed it the first time.

Found my issue last night when I pulled the wheel off to investigate more:

I found the spot it is leaking from the boot, not the clamp this time. The clamp is either too tight or was damage in shipping ect. I cant imagine what I see happened while on car. The clamp has been mushed (term softer than smashed) and deformed of flattened a bit in one small section about 1" long. When it did this it cut into the boot and there is a tiny cut/hole that the grease is leaking from.

At this point I will just replace the boot, repack the grease and reinstall the axle.

Matt.
Not sure if you remember but I contacted you a few months back cause both my started leaking also.
Dealer replaced them after making comments about my Coil Overs making the car to low. Fought with them a little bit about the issue. I'm only 3/4" lower than stock. They couldn't justify it being the cause after making comparisons to a car they had on the lot. So they stepped up.

Since replacing them I haven't seen the issue. Talked with the service rep and he's never seen the issue before me. And he's a C5 member.

Thank you

mine weren't leaking when i replaced them with aftermarket versions. so far no leaks, knock on wood, and no clunks. i felt at the time it was probably overkill, but got what i felt was a good deal and had the cash at the time.

i read, but can not confirm that there are different grades of grease. one of the axle manufacturers i talked to said that they would "polish & repack with hi-temp grease" my stock axles for me. i went with complete axles, mostly because i couldn't have the car down for the turn around time.

I had the same issue about a month after getting my car two years ago. Had grease in the driver's side wheel and dealer replaced axle under warranty. I haven't had an issue since.
