Heater cores leaking?
I have been reading several threads on heater cores leaking on Gen 5 Camaros. I found out to replace a heater core the dash and windshield has to come out.
I keep my cars and trucks for many years and have Never had to replace a heater core in Any of them. Is this something to be concerned about? Info appreciated. Thanks. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370240 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=318314 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249028 Last edited by klaatu barada nikto; 08-19-2014 at 11:22 PM. |

Don't worry about it. Heater cores are just the flavor of the month. Things happen to all cars.

There's no reason to be concerned unless something happens. The best (and only) thing you can do now is keep up with the maintenance on your car. For the heater core, that means checking your coolant level often and flushing/replacing the coolant at scheduled intervals.

I know about maintenance, a number of people on this forum are posting heater core failures on Cars less than 5 years old. I posted the links.
If true this is abnormal. |

1) This is a internet forum. Never believe everything you read.
2) The small % of 'reported' failures in this forum compared to the overall % of cars on the road with no issues is null.

I believe very little of what i see or read on the internet. Trying to find the truth.
Maybe the people reporting early heater core failures will see this thread and comment on their situation. |

One of the post's your refering to is about my car. It sucks, it sure does! Having said that I agree with most on here that it probably is a really small percentage of our cars that have this issue. It doesn't matter what the part is some are going to fail. We all know this.
What I dont agree with is maintance solving the problem, atleast in my case. Mine was a physical falure where the core cracked and had to be replaced. No amount of rad flushes could have avoided this I dont think, but I could even be wrong about that… Anyway, I wouldnt worry too much about it if I were you! Derrick |

Thanks for your reply! I hope your case ended well to your satisfaction.
In perusing the forum the past couple days i had noticed several heater core failures. This is something i have not seen in other forums and thought a little odd for cars less than 5 years old. Bob |
