Ya I guess that would be a pretty good drive up this way. Maybe you could make a road trip just one time.

Kinda quiet in here!

Any plans made for the next meet or a run across the Cherehala?

We should try to set up a Tail of Dragon run.

The Dragon is still closed from TN to NC due to the rock slide earlier this year. You can drive the dragon ( 129 from Robbensville NC ) from NC towards TN to Deals Gap but you cannot go the whole way and exit in TN due to the rock slide. Frankly these cars are too big and heavy for the tight twists and hairpin turns of the Dragon, a lighter more nimble machine would be better. The Cherohala Skyway is better suited to the Camaro. Frankly, I'd like to see a meeting place that had more to do than eat. FYI, the bi-monthly Cars and Coffee event hosted by European Auto Garage will be happening again this Saturday 7/3/2010. Address is 227 Sherway road in west Knoxville. Cars begin showing up around 8am. Ed M.

I think you are incorrect about The dragon being closed on the Tennessee side, only Access to the dragon is closed according to the Tail Of the dragon website. You can still travel the entire 11 miles (past Deals Gap into Tennessee) if you enter from the NC side.

June 24, 2010: People continue to be confused about the status of the Dragon. The entire 11 miles of the Tail of the Dragon is open from 8 am to 8 pm. The only access is from US 129 in North Carolina. You cannot get to the Dragon via US 129 from Tennessee. Many people are now finding the Moonshiner 28. READ ABOUT IT HERE US 19 from Cherokee to Maggie Valley has been repaved. The Tapoco Lodge is now officially planning to open in March of 2011. Watch for updates on coming changes to the historic inn.

I thought that's what I said. Bottom line is you cannot enter the Dragon from TN and if you enter it from NC you can drive it towards and into TN but must turn around and go back to NC. Done it.

Well, you put in that you could only get to deals gap, and you can go past there... You never really mentioned being able to travel the entire 11 miles of the Dragon still.. just seemed like you were saying the Tennessee side was completely closed (and that is where 90% of the Dragon is located). I just wanted to make sure everyone understood that if you wanted to drive the dragon, there was still a way to get there...

Hi everyone, it's time for our next meet and is going to be a different one. We will be going on a road trip to Cherohala Skyway on July 11, 2010. First we will meet at 7:30 A:M Shoney's in Lenoir City on Exit 81/75 South that's if you are traveling from Knoxville to Chattanooga. We will be having breakfast and leaving at 8:30 A:M sharp. If you are not having breakfast just be there at 8:30 A:M. We will then proceed to convoy to the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center and gas up at the nearest gas station. At the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center we will pick a route and place to eat lunch before we start our road trip. This trip will take most of the day so plan accordingly. I have provided the link below for your viewing pleasure. One more thing please sign up at the Forum Calendar. Thanks

Sounds good!

I'll probably run up that way on 64 toward the Ocoee then onto 30-315. I'll catch up with the caravan in Tellico or the visitor center.
