2012 SS vs 2013 ZL1 vs 2013 GT500

ok, so my husband has 2 friends that are looking to go to the drag strip with us in the next few weeks... we're not betting any money or anything like that, but...

I'm a numbers person, can anyone tell me if I'm going to get blown away / have a fighting chance?

i'm at 486rwhp, 467 ft lbs torque in my SS with newish 315's in the rear (street tires) & no suspension upgrades (SC, LTH, not cats to flowmasters, CAI, tune)

the ZL1 is stock (manual) and the Shelby GT500 is stock (manual i think / assume)

none of us have any drag racing experience; i went once to irwindale and ran 8.1 sec with stock tires, first and only time ever going in my life in 100 degree whether on a full tank of gas, car seat in the back (lol), and a not so empty trunk. (and I didn't have a helmet at the time so it was the only run i was allowed to do before getting booted)

What are my odds? (I plan on having a few videos of it, that i will definitely post up - if they don't flake)

It's anyone's game if nobody has drag racing experience. That GT500, depending on the year, will have a tough time hooking up. I beat a 13 GT500 6 times in a row locally here because the guy could not break out of the 13s. Fast car with a slow driver will not net good results. I think you have a great chance.

I agree...you having the auto, even w/ less RWHP than the other 2, will have the advantage seeing as all 3 of you are new to the track. The '13 GT500 is def manual (only way they come) and is a beast, but on the stock 285s it's going to be a spin fest, IMO. ZL1 has better tires stock and less RWHP than the 500 but it's still tough to get down a track w/ M6. Sounds like good fun between friends, be sure to post results/vids if it goes down.

I've beaten ZL1s with only 370 rwhp (L99 A6).
It's all about how your car is setup and if it can hook up off the line.

If you can run low 12s, you will beat most the ZL1 you line up next to at the track. GT500 are very driver dependent. On street tires they can run all kinds of times (from bad to real fast depending on the track and driver's skill)

This is good to know, i feel a bit more confident now.

What does an 8.1 sec 1/8th mile time translate to for a 1/4, or is there not really an accurate conversion?

I'd say from experience that an 8.1 in the 1/8th is about a 12.6 1/4 mile time.

That doesn't make sense. 6's in the 1/8 mile would mean you are running 10's in the 1/4 mile. I went 7.9 in the 1/8 and 12.2 in the 1/4 mile.
