That's good info.....getting closer to sasquach.....thx 58.
So the above indicates that its not just a "counter" but an event log....again just data...rows in a table.
This actually ties in with something a guy from Diablo said to me but I didn't peice it together until I saw the "part number" above.
He said the Diablo was the only device that could write a cal tune without inserting a non-GM part number in the log.....at the time I didn't know what he was talking about but if the two are related....it means the Diablo either inhibits the log process or "cleans it up" upon completion.

The only way to validate this would be to have E38 device editor/display (like GDS) and test the impact of Diablo updates on the table. If what he said was true and the two are one in the same.....your problem is solved.

You could "port"(transfer) your custom tune to the Diablo device (it holds custom tunes) and upload it to your car's computer. That way you have your custom tune and can re-flash back to stock without giving GM the flash log history.

Would have to validate the impact of the Diablo device though.....or the story becomes "we found Big Foot, but we can't kill it".

Or if you could find a direct E38 editor, you could just delete the log entries after the stock reflash but before you went into the dealer for warranty work.

Getting closer though......

I think once people figure out and/or start messing with the Cvn/ flash counter we are opening up a issue that will be addressed and will be bad for the whole industry. My logic is that its best left alone and not tampered with Thats just me though.

I go away for a weekend and vacation and the thread keeps going. I'm surprised since I hadn't meant it to take the direction it did.

Under this scenerio, how does GM "see" what was changed on previous flashes that no longer exist?
That was the point of the thread. If something went wrong and I DID NOT change the tune back to stock (or any other version), would I have a leg to stand on since, theoretically, GM could determine the only change was to remove AFM since the tune history would show only one change.

There is no way to cheat the system. If there was, someone would have figured it out by now. You have to pay to play people.

but no "normal" dealership will go through the hoops i've been through to have things handled.

Pretty soon though in CA the smog stations will be conducting inspections of computers to ensure OEM calibrations. I didn't understand how they could do this as a bit map comparison would not be "economically" feasible.

But if "flash logs" were required to have OEM part number references, they could easily display the log and fail the car if the part number was not an OEM number(like a CARB number)........then you're really up the creek. No reg tag until smog cert and no cert until OEM flash and when you go to get the OEM flash.....hello warranty block.(normally warranty would have expired...maybe).

The tuning platforms will just have to catch up(they are always so behind)....and figure out how to clean up the log.
