Why do you equate horsepower numbers to being a better car?

if i get a 500hp prius, is it better than a 300hp camaro?

lay off the HP = EVERYTHING.

B. 7000rpm Redline
C. 412hp around 6500rpm
D. THEREFORE it most likely have a comprestion ratio of 11.0 to 1!!!!!!!

It is really expensive to get more power out of an OHC design and keep it N.A. Therefore most ford fans have been adding blowers, but with this new motor not as blower friendly as I am predicting. The 2011 mustang may have an advantage stock depending on how much it weighs, But mod for mod and dollar for dollar, The LS3 still have a significant advantage. Before the blue boys were adding blowers to compete, but what will ford GT fans do now to add a significant amount of performance to the 2011 mustang since it has a very highly tuned v8, which make blowers not much of an option any more???

LOl.

Soooo I Guess that Blower WHIPPLE HAS ALREADY FINISH is not a S/C then ? Whipple has had the new 5.0 engine for quite a bit, and has already finished their setup. You should be hearing the numbers after Ford official release.

are you comparing 2001 mustang gears to a 2010 camaro's gears?
ya back on my 98 4.10s ran me a little over $100...what's your point? something that has been around for 9 years is cheaper than a new product

if you reallllly wanted to compare mods dollar to dollar, wouldn't you think the 2011 would be on the losing side of your debate. our motor and a lot of the aftermarket engineering was carried over from the different platforms within GM...the 5.0 is gonna be a clean slate with no prior work done and companies are gonna have to spend time and money developing parts for a new platform. i just dont think you can assume that parts will be cheaper on the mustang just because your 2001 mustang gears are cheaper than brand new 2010 camaro gears, which i might add is currently only being offered by 1 company

Second, the 3v 4.6 is a great engine. It puts out 315 hp, which is very good for a small v8. It also takes to mods very well. While Ford had to up the ante to keep up with the 5th gen Camaros, the 2005-10 GTs are no slouches.
what mods does a 3v 4.6 respond very well to besides f\i?

There is another thread going that says 2011 Gt will be 412hp and 380tq. Or something like that.

Point is mod for mod. IRS or not, the 8.8 gets its mission done. The gears in a 2001 8.8 is the same as the one in a 2010 8.8. So old or not, its something that can be modded for cheap, unlike the 2010 Camaro. Debate all day on that one. Its nothing new, its basic, and go unchanged. Thats it.

if you reallllly wanted to compare mods dollar to dollar, wouldn't you think the 2011 would be on the losing side of your debate. our motor and a lot of the aftermarket engineering was carried over from the different platforms within GM...the 5.0 is gonna be a clean slate with no prior work done and companies are gonna have to spend time and money developing parts for a new platform. i just dont think you can assume that parts will be cheaper on the mustang just because your 2001 mustang gears are cheaper than brand new 2010 camaro gears, which i might add is currently only being offered by 1 company

5.0 is clean slate, but everything is very familar or the same. Some part on one cost more than the other, but its a weak arguement to sit there and say the Mustang is on the losing side of that debate. Everyone can go back and forth all day on that too. Very weak. The only thing that i can see as being expensive when compared to the Camaro is the cams. 4 vs. 1. As for R&D engine wise, its doesnt take long for the aftermarket to make an effective CAI, UDP, or any external bolt-on. Basically internal mods is the only concern; but it doesnt just stop with the engine. You got a firmly established aftermarket for the majority unchanged S-197 platform (suspension, mid-pipe back exhaust, and tidbit appearance). So, in the end Im not guessing on prices on gears, im telling you the prices on gears. Reference: http://www.americanmuscle.com/2010-mustang-gears.html. However I am amazed that Whipple has R&D and probably done with designing a S/C, so the power adder aftermarket is about even kill across the board.

My point is that the dollar for dollar/ mod vs. mod debate is weak and pointless.

On that note, I do have an curiousity if Ford intended to offer this via Ford Racing. If so, they got another point.

At this point any debate is pointless. Let's wait and see how this car runs when it comes out. At this point it has to beat a 12.6 bone stock to be faster than the SS.

That's true. We are comparing vehicles not people's driving skills.

Exactly, the first 12.8x second SS 1/4 mile run took a long time to eek out and it took quite some time before anybody else was able to break out of the 12.9's. The supposed bone stock 12.6 second run? I'm just not buying it.

Reminds me of a guy I once saw run 11's in a 400ci Firebird he swore was stock as a rock outside of the exhaust and a set of cheater slicks. Over and over he kept claiming to have a nearly stock 11 second car, what he really had was a very active imagination.
