You might look for comments about lifts at http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/.

I have had a Bend-Pak HD9 9000 lb four post lift since December 2004. I've basically been happy with it. It has worked fine and required little maintenance.

I recently bought a Bend-Pak RJ45 bridge jack. I've had issues with this jack some of which is posted at http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...t=56838&page=2.

I've read that Bend-Pak and many lift brands are made in China.

I went with a drive on lift, similar to an alignment lift. It does have a removable jack tray if you need to pull wheels off. It doubles your parking space for one bay too

Camaro x,

That's an amazing engineering feat on the garage door track. And the clearance on the door handle is unbelievable. Did you design and custom build the track?

2SSRSGTOTA,

Can you give us some dimensions of the garage, including ceiling height?

I'll post pics of my lift (Rotary) later today.

jmcbeth - Thanks, well I am an Engineer.

It was a little design and a little trial and error to make it work. I made a cut in the radius where I thought it would work. Assembled it, and found out the door wouldn't clear handle\frame and the center spring support. So I cut a straight section with a slight angle and prayed that it would get the clearance I needed. I worked and life was good. The reason the cars are so close to the door is that I have a water heater and gas line to it in front of the cars. If I could have them further forward I would have much better clearence between the car and the door. I had a garage door guy out to replace a spring in my double door an he was impressed. An altenate solution would be a roll up door. But my deed restrictions wouldn't allow it.

OK, as promised, here is picture. Some things to note:
  1. It is a Rotary two post asymmetric lift.
  2. The ceiling is twelve feet. Note the top of the lift is very close to the light fixture.
  3. The overhead door is not an issue because the lift is placed past the end of the track. You need to have sufficient depth of the garage to accomplish this.
  4. An asymmetric lift like this is great for working on the wheels.

When my dad and I were looking to get a lift for the Vette, we did a lot of research (google). This is what ended up swaying us away from the Backyard Buddy:
http://www.astudyinliftdesign.com/fo...ft-design.html

it goes a little more in depth about the lifts in case any of you were curious. I think there's a couple more lift design studies on google.

edit: They have one on the Rotary lift too: http://www.astudyinliftdesign.com/tw...omparison.html for anyone interested

no pics, but have a 4 post from directlift. Bought 2 so got a good deal. 10ft ceilings can stack two cars. I'm 6'4 and can NOT stand under the car. Use a roller stool. Mines used mainly for storage (put the mustang away now that I have a new toy)
