Suggest using the speed warning indicator that GM implemented into the DIC for a "reminder" ...

Set the speed warning indicator to alarm at 85 mph and forget it.
[it is a menu function of the DIC]

The GM engineers probably surmised that some folks may be in over their heads with this kind of power, especially at this price point, and incorporated the goofy juvenile (albeit adjustable set point) warning (e.g. unlike the 1960's idiot light that came on > ?? mph).

It's interesting, there is no such "idiot light" warning system in modern Vettes.

WOW, I posted my little story and went out to dinner. Can't believe all the attention of this thread. I was really written to amuse. I can't believe all the Boy Scouts out there.
To give you a little more clarity for those who are sooo worried about my "reckless driving" I was in the hammer lane with one pickup truck in front of me. He moved over and I had a straight shot, so I gave it a little gas. I was not swerving through traffic or anything stupid. There was no traffic around me. I'm 42 and I drive fast cars fast. We don't do points in Texas, this is my first ticket in about 3 years. The ticket won't be more than my down payment because I paid cash. 100 is not going to hurt the new engine. So for all of you guys who always drive the speed limit and never do anything wrong be safe and I'll see you on the road, just make sure your not in the fast lane.

I looked down and I was at 100MPH. I could not believe how quick I hit 100.

He asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I told him I had no idea. He said take a guess, I said 80-85.
Why did you lie to him?

Because I was at 100 for just a second
then I shut it down. When I saw him I was in the 80-85
range. I thought that was where he saw
me. Why say 100 when when I might
of be at a lower speed?

sorry guys lol
My mustang (not stock) runs the quarter in just under 13 seconds. I only push it at the track though. Again, it's about responsibility, not what your car is capable of.

Don't get me wrong, I understand how someone would want to see what the car is really capable of. All I'm saying is that there is a place for that, and it's not on public roads.

I went from having a 2000 Nissan Xterra with about 170hp to having a 2006 Mustang GT with 350 horsepower (after mods, of course). When I got the Mustang, I was actually more conscious about speed than I was with the Nissan because I knew it had about twice as much power. And that's why there really isn't an excuse. Going from a less powerful car to a more powerful car should make you MORE cautious of what it can do, not less.

I'm not a Boy Scout, and I do drive a tad over the speed limit like most people in America. I'm just saying it's not very safe to do 100+; especially not in a car you are not very familiar with. You can argue that there was no one around, but then again you didn't exactly see the police officer quick enough. If you want to drive fast cars fast, fine, but do it at a track. Maybe I'm a little overbearing about this just because I knew people who were killed by somebody who thought a lot like you do, but it's difficult to respect people who don't seem to show respect towards the safety of themselves and others on the road.

I'm sorry but here is the truth. I am sick of hearing people say they don't realize they are doing 100 MPH. Either a) you are lieing or b) you are a complete jackass have no common sense and furthermore no respect for rules of the road. (Commonly found in drivers between age 16-25) hence the rediculous insurance premiums for this age group.

Haha mmollo! Watch out for those Hickory Creek cops. Happy to see you finally have it! You need to update your sig picture now

Sucks this weather we are having this weekend. I would have probably done the same thing as you, just happy you got out of the jail ride. Hopefully see you out and about with mine next week. If you see a CGM with black stripes around Denton/Argyle area, thats me probably

Hickory Creek must know James Wood is starting to deliver Camaros.
What a great way for the town to make some extra cash
Well, I won't get a ticket today. She's in the garage staying dry. I'm working
on my new sig pic. I'll be looking for you around town.
