Issue after pumping gas!
So...I'm having an issue on my 2010 camaro v6 RS 3.6L. Car has 117xxx miles if that maters. So here is the problem, every time after pumping gas I have problems starting the car. Usually to avoid this problem i turn the key before the ignition let the fuel pump flow some gas and then start it any ideas what it might be? would codes be useful? I appreciate everyone's help in advance.

Mimic the samething you do when you pump gas, but do not add gas or take gas cap off. Filling up my have nothing to do with it. Posibbly just sitting with with ignition off and a hot engine for 5 minutes or so may cause the same issue.

Not that I would recommend trying this regularly - but does this happen when your tank was near empty, and then filled it up? I'd try to see if it happens when the tank is just near empty a few times. It might be your fuel pump slowly dying.
Also, I've seen fuel pumps die prematurely when people consistently fill up only when their gas light comes on, or continuously pull a Kramer and try to run the tank to empty before filling. If you've been doing that, it's a bad practice. |

Ive actually always filled up once it's only one quarter of a tank left on it never let it go below that and always go full tank when ever I do pump gas

Could be the start of the in-tank fuel pump going out. You asked if codes would be helpful... is your check engine light on? Codes are always helpful if you have them.

The replies above are all pretty good suggestions.
My only suggestion is to always allow the fuel pump to prime before starting the engine. Just turn the key to the 'Run' position (before 'Start' position) and wait about 5 seconds. You can then turn the key to start the engine. This is a good routine for any fuel injected car. I cringe every time I hear/see someone immediately start cars after inserting the key.

I does sound like the fule pump going bad, does it happen even if you haven't pumped gas?
try to simulate the same type of timing but without pumping gas.

Try some fuel treatment that removes water like Chemtool.
Could be water stirred up or the strainer clogged.

None of the above. Just had the same problem with my Traverse. The GM fuel systems are all similar in the emissions setup and that is your problem. There is a pressure relief valve at the tank, then a hose that runs to the engine. There is another pressure relief valve there...typically on top of the engine. Typically the valve at the engine fails. When this happens, the car won't start well after a fill up...pressure not properly balanced in the tank and computer won't let it start. I used to have to hold the pedal to the floor for a few seconds and release...then it would start. Replaced this valve on top of the engine and problem solved.
Google "Camaro won't start after filling gas tank" and see what yo find. That is how I found what was causing it on my Traverse. $46 part. Edit...just did the search...best result: the purge solenoid is stuck open...when you fill the tank...the fumes from the tank go into the engine through the open purge solenoid and flood the engine. Replace the purge solenoid...that is what I replaced on my Traverse. |
