Speed had nothing to do with it, Joe. I didn't touch the brakes during that speed run. My wife had done all the driving to the 1500 mile mark and she doesn't hot rod.

Might ask Erik @ Torq to see what pads he was using last weekend... Thread is on the home page... 1st thing he did was swap pads before hitting the track... all else was showroom stock except wheels.

Per videos and manual; only needed done prior to track use!

However both stated to avoid hard stops

Just a simple 25 mile cruise without any hard braking at all is leaving quite the noticeable amount of dust in the wheels. Is anybody else seeing this on their ZL1's?
WAY too much brake dust. Already called the dealership and asked about replacements.

I plan on re-placing mine with EBC Red pads. I've good luck with them on other cars in the past.

I will probably go to a "lower performance" brake pad when the time comes.

The factory brake pads on the ZL1 leave an exorbitant amount of brake dust that accumulates on the wheels, tires, and lower exterior surfaces of the fenders and quarter panels after very little use.

Agreed. My Dad polished his car for over 3 hours and it was spotless. We drove it around town, running errands, etc. for two days (less than 100 miles total) and after every trip there were little balls of brake dust all over the wheels. There was no hard braking or anything out of the ordinary, just cruising and enjoying the car. I've never seen brake dust turn into little balls before. At first we thought it was grease or some sort of road grime, but it was in fact the dust. We cleaned up the wheels after each trip because of all the dust and it would return like clockwork.

It's the only complaint that I have about the ZL1 so far is the brake dust on the wheels. I did happen to install Hawk Ceramic's last week on the fronts and the dust seems to be greatly reduced. I didn't get to drive it as much this week to really compare how it would look after a few days use.

I understand that I am going to have to live with the dust if I want the performance. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice one the best way to keep that dust from etching into the wheels. I have the polished wheels and after the first cleaning with soap and water I noticed that the dust was etching into the surface. Would it be best to wipe it off after each use with a damp rag, or do you need a mild wheel cleaner each time?
