MGW shift knob installed
MGW shift knob installed
I've been looking for a new shift knob to replace the OEM and found this one in another Camaro5 forum (see below) I just installed the MGW classic shift knob on my 2SS and thought I would share the pictures. Not to everyones liking, I'm sure, but I like it. I called MGW and spoke directly to George and he answered all my questions. I received the shift knob about 3 days later and it was packaged very well. The quality is very good. George explained that the knob base is machined to fit over the stock shifter arm, which is does with very little play. There is an allen set screw to secure it to the shifter shaft. It is a tight fit when completed. The install was easy. The installed knob is close to the height of the OEM shift knob. The knob itself is held to the machined base with epoxy and does not come off. As there are no threads, there is no way to remove knob and replace it with another on the base. I would have liked that option. I'm very pleased with the fit and feel. Hopefully, other colors will be available in the future. Hope this info helps others. Whitey btw- There are pics (2 other models with shift patterns) and prices from MGW under the Marketplace->Sponsors Classified Marketplace -> Transmissions -> Driveline Forum-> stock fit classic shift knobs for v8 and v6 models in stock right now! |

Looks good. I've been looking at something different for mine as well. Is the height any lower when compared to the factory knob? I’m looking for something that is maybe an inch lower.

height of shifter knob
I think the shifter knob does sit maybe 1/2" lower then the "squashed baseball" that is OEM. I pushed the machined base down as far as it would go.
