That's what I did, I couldn't get the filter out otherwise.

Perfect instructions. Including the socket size was a big time saver. I could not get the car on my ramps because of the low profile. I used a jack instead. I did not have to take the engine cover all the way off. After you take the oil cap off you can lift up the cover enough to get the filter cap off. I stuck a towel under it to hold it up. What I want to know is is the Percentage of oil life remaining based on the type of oil used synth vs conventional?

I have 12000 miles on my 1Lt and am doing my second oil change by myself in about an hour from now, this was very helpful. I too was wondering where the filter was and actually located it and was stoked that it is on top of the engine.
I will be using Mobile 5000 conventional oil this time but will be moving up to synthetic on next change. I want to run the conventional oil in it for a while first then change to the synthetic, I have a good friend that is a mechanic and he suggested it, he has never let me down.

I just did my oil change on my 3.6l.... This will be the second oil change, first was performed by Valvoline. Decided I would do this one on my own. Drained all the oil, replaced the filter, added 6 qt of brand new Dexos approved oil. Checked the dip stick, all looked well. Then I put the old oil back into the 5QT bottle for return to Advanced auto.... It only filled half the bottle.... Which means only 2.5QT came out of my car.... Any ideas?? No way the oil filter holds 2.5QT and even so, I shouldn't have been able to put in 6 qt of oil ... now I am freakin out that valvoline screwed up my last oil change and I ran 5k miles with 2.5Qt of oil....

Guess not, or you would have noticed before it was down over 3 qts. You should check your dipstick regularly...at least a couple times a month. No way to prove anything after 5k miles have gone by.

Ive always done my own oil changes but have not done one yet on my Camaro. What type of ramps do you guys use? I have 2 sets of ramps and cant pull my car up on either of them because it sits to low.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but I wanted to give a another tip. I just changed the oil on my 2012 1LT for the first time this past weekend, and this was my process, without using ramps:
1. jack front of car up (see jack point image earlier in this thread for correct jackpoints), put jack stands at proper points 2. take off fill cap & filter. Drain pan. Lube & replace filter while it's draining. 3. set front of car down again, and now jack up the left rear of the car. When I did this, the oil pan continued to drain for a good minute or so, even though it had already stopped when the car was level. This is, in my opinion, the best way to get ALL of the oil out of the car before filling it. 4. set the car down, replace oil pan bolt (you'll probably have to jack the front up again to reach it) 5. set the car down, fill up with 6 QTs of Mobil 1, check for leaks, and voila! |

Just finished mine. Of my wife's Traverse and our Odyssey...the Camaro was by far the easiest. Thanks for the write up. Well Done!
