Went to GM today

Hey everyone

Just wanted to say what happened today and express my unhappiness.

I went to GM to look at upgrading my 2LT to a 2SS and I asked for what I could get trade in value wise. To try and paint the shitty news i got a bit better, My LT was fully equipped with GFX, sunroof, RS Package and only had 5000km on it.

In 6 months the value of my car went from 44,000 to 25,000 even though its in beautiful condition. Maybe I'm being a bit naive about this but it felt like an honest to god kick in the nuts.

Just thought I'd share this experience with you guys. Still love GM, just a bad day with next to no hope in upgrading... lol

Your dealer was just trying to screw you. Use www.nada.com to find out what your car is worth.

I totally agree that your dealer was low balling the price to you..Go elsewhere and good luck.

It does look like the 2lt does not hold its value as well as the SS though.

Yeah try to tell a dealer what NADA says you car is worth...In my experience, you'll get laughed out of the dealership and it will be like they never heard of NADA. Around here they use the "Black Book" which is available online for a fee. Those values are MUCH less than NADA, KBB or Edmunds. That will give you a more realistic idea of what you could expect on a trade. Try to sell it on your own...Good Luck!

If you paid $44k for a 2LT with those options, you got screwed from the start!

If you paid 44,000 for a 2LT with those options, you paid too much. He is alittle low on the offer though.

He lives in Canada. I'm sure that is why he paid that much. But his situation in American dollars is like if I paid $30k for a 2LT and 5000 miles later only being offered $17k for it.

I think the V6 is more common now that most enthusiasts have theirs.

Camaros will litter the landscape in a year or so for $15-20K when gas hits 5 bucks a gallon. Better hang on to it and just drive it!

Yea the dealers try to use "Black Book", which is whole sale prices on the car... it basically is what they could get out of it if they took it to an auction. It's the easiest way for them to screw you and make a huge profit on the car... now that you know what one dealer is going to give you go to kbb.com or nada.com and come up with a fair price in between those two prices.

Most dealers don't even go by Black Book or NADA anymore. The more realistic standard to them is the Manheim Auctions. If a car is selling at auction for $20k, that's usually the most you're gonna get for it unless they already have a buyer for the car, or it's just something extraordinary. They have to be able to get out of it at what they put into it.
