Steve,

You are absolutely correct that there will be a gap at the top of the spring when the car is lifted.. It is no problem and is normal. All of our testing has been done with that setup and there is no noise or ill effects from that scenario.

With our coilovers, we maintain a huge amount of droop travel (stock amount) for customers that want to use the car at a stock ride height. It is part of the great design of the Pfadt coilovers.

There are options with tender springs to keep spring tension at full droop, but they cost adjustment length and limit lowering. They also add 2 more pieces in the front strut and have more of a possibility of causing a noise. We have tested with this setup and find the single spring preferable.

Again, the spring that does not stay in contact with the upper mount when the car is lifted is a conscious choice and the package was tested that way. There are NO negative effects to that scenario and you should use the coilover with these springs. You are correct in that you could go with a softer spring that has a longer free length, but we have chosen that rate for it's performance and balance. To go with a compromised spring rate just for a full droop scenario is a poor choice.

Have you driven the car? I think you will find that the noise from the original springs has been completely eliminated and the handling characteristics are fantastic.

Sincerely,
Aaron Pfadt
