As stated before, check with your insurance company on the cost. Here in FL we have comprehensive insurance. Which means free window replacement, depending on the circumstances of course. I've had my current car for 8 years and have replaced the window twice due to flying rocks.

In Taxachusetts, the crack that you show would call for a new windshield. They will repair a chip but not a crack. Also, in the Pay State, there is no deductable on glass, it is fully paid for. Take it to the dealer and ask for a windshield from GM.

There is no law that states the insurance company has to pay for the repair for free. Thats only if you have the option for non-deductible glass on your comprehensive coverage, otherwise its subject to the same deductible as your comprehensive policy unless stated otherwise on the policy.

The non-deductible glass is an option on comprehensive not part of any state laws or requirements, that said no good agent would ever sell you a policy without it because when you do crack a windshield and end up getting a bill he knows you will stab him in the neck with the broken glass .

You are right, it is on the optional comprehensive part of the policy. Due to the fact that we are talking about a 2010 Camaro, I would figure that no-one would be without the comprehensive. If you have the comprehensive here, by law, there is no deductable.

It was about $500 for the glass, and it was 50 something to install it. Dealer drove it to safelite up the road and they put it in in about 30 minutes. I actually rode in the back of a demo pickup holding the box the windshield came in for dear life while my sales guy drove.
yes there are aftermnarket windshields, but they are the same cost as the oem glass. (at least it is for me). dont take it to safelite. usually there a bunch of hacks. take it to a nice locally owned experienced glass shop.

also the "black band" you are refering to is ceramic frit. it is there for cosmetic reasons and to keep the uv from breaking down the urethane glue that holds in the glass. every windshield has the black band and so will a aftermarket or oem glass. as far as if a glass shop will cut down a different windshield to fit yours. no it doesnt work that way. every car has there own glass. granted silverados, tahoes, yukons, escalades used the same glass. so do other makes and modesl that share the same platform.

if you want exactly the same glass. (the only difference between oem and aftermarket except for safelite glass is the "bug in the bottom corner i.e pilkinington, ppg, pgw) safelite makes there own glass and in my experience it is very poor quality. go to the dealer and order the glass, or have your glass shop do the leg work because thats what they are there for.

Yes, happened to me too. On the ride home from the dealership. It may take a little longer to get, but get a GM window. It will exactly like the one on there now. And make sure you have an experianced person put it in. Don't worry, the pain only lasts a while.

As far as coverage goes, that all depends on what you have your deductable set at. I believe I was told when I had mine replaced that the window costs somewhere between $300-$600. I had a $100 deductable.

Actually there is a deductable option in MA, its $100 probably saves you a few bucks on your premium but probably not worth it, but your standard deductable doesn't apply. Thats why I said "unless otherwise stated in the policy". MA is one of the only states to do it like this, and unfortunately unscrupulous agents will throw that option in just to undercut another company by a few bucks. Good to be on the lookout for stuff like that.

the part numbers are.

dw1814 gty remote start.

dw1813 gty without remote start

installed if you were here would be 450.00 for either windshield. this is the price for aftermarket Pilkington glass. this the cash price. if you go through insurnace you would be only required to pay your deductible. the insurance would pay the glass shop the agreed upon price for there region minus your deductible.

if you look at your glass on your car passenger side bottom corner you will see the "bug" it will say gm and some other things and below that is pilkington. that means pilkington was the oem glass provider for the camaro. the aftermarket glass will be exactly the same except it wont say gm above the pilkington. i will get a picture of the "bug" from the new windshield posted here in a few minutes.

If you get a chip in the glass, bust out a dremel and make that chip a little hole. Not through the glass, just enough to nullify the crack. Then go to a glass place and have them fill it. That is what they do anyways. Just be careful with that dremel.
