All most any car if not used for its intended purpose is more than likely going to be an investment loss rather than a gain. Using something that I know well is the 1987 Grand National. Only 20,000 made sold for about 20K in 1987. Today a low miles 87 is about 30K on average. Adjusting for inflation 18K is 41K in today's money. No investment gain on that car over 33 years. And is it has very low miles the car insurance and repairs ate up more dollars over 33 years. To buy a car and than not to drive it makes little sense from an investment stand point. The only reason to not drive a car is to not wear it out as fast which in turn does save money in repair costs over time.
Had I purchased an 18K mutual fund that returned on average 5% annually I would now have 72K. With that 72K I could now buy a 1987 GN for 30K and still have 40K in my pocket. |

Totally agree BuddyLee, cars in general are not an investment. Minimizing losses and still enjoying the car doesn't hurt. In my 35 years of buying and driving classic cars I would say I have basically broke even, and I can't ask for much more than that return for all of the enjoyment I have gotten.
Now that we are on the cusp of electric vehicle only production, I have to disagree with those who say these ZL1's will never be collectable. As far as American muscle goes the high HP Chevy, Mopar and Fords being produced today are the last, and some of the most significant of a dying breed. |

And with that death will come a very aggressive sur tax for putting fuel in them... Which will make them worthless because they cant be driven.. You can expect Cali to lead the charge.. |

I'll be long gone by then, in the mean time I would rather live in Cleveland than California. No offense Cleveland.

We could debate it’s value all day, but I think you have enough information/advice to decide what the risks are and what you’re willing to pay for this vehicle. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so try your price and if they say no - you either walk, or you pay the piper for the car you want. As others have said, they get lowballed every day. You’re not offending anyone. Value is like beauty - it’s in the eye of the beholder.

I bought a 2012 ZL1 with 14,000 miles on it in 2018. It was a manufacturers buyback car.
It was a California car the was bought back because of the supercharger rattle. This was before Chevy started fixing/warrantying the ZL1 supercharger rattle. I bought it for $23,000, and then took it directly to the Chevy dealer for a new supercharger. |

Can I ask why you sold it, and what you got for it?

That's good, sounds like a pretty good price too, a ZL1 for the price of a Volkswagen Golf. If GM bought the car back, how were they able to re-sell the car without fixing it? Did they just disclose that the car had a bad supercharger and void any warranty?

Check with your insurance company regarding the branded title. They may hike your insurance rate or even deny it.

Juanita - I see that ZL1 is no longer listed for sale. Did you buy it?
