LS3 in For Oil Pump Warranty, can I do a cam too?

Hey guys, I fell victim to the dreaded LS3 failed oil pump. It sounds like it's going to be covered under my powertrain warranty thankfully, but it was still a bummer process. Plus a couple dealers wouldn't warranty due to just a cold air intake and bolt on cat back exhaust. But that's another subject.

I asked them if they could install a GM Performance Part upgraded oil pump and they looked at me cross eyed. In the catalog I found this "High Volume LS Oil Pump Kit - P/N 17801830". Is that what I should request? Of course they said I would have to pay for the upgraded part, not the labor. I was semi-ok with that.

Secondly, is there any GM performance Parts Camshaft that I can pay the parts for them to install that will work with a factory tune?? None were specified to work with factory tune in the catalog. Yes, a tune would be nice and get me every inch of power, but to me it's not worth blowing the powertrain warranty for.

This dealership isn't super friendly or knowledgeable on doing GMPP swaps. Unfortunately when your car breaks down in an unknown city and you just want to get back home, you tend to take it to the closet dealer with decent reviews. Thanks! Hoping to call the dealership in a couple hours to order up the parts and get back on the road!

I would just let them install the required oil pump if its under warranty. I would not let them touch anything else.

If you want a cam then go to a reliable place to have it done. Also if you want a good oil pump then go with a Melling 10296

Unless your tuned with the CAI, your power train warranty is not voided. replacing the exhaust does not void your warranty either. Remember they have to prove the modification caused the damage. Once you cam, your power train warranty is gone. Upgrade your timing chain, oil pump (Melling) and head internals when you cam too.

You're lucky they'll install a non production oil pump on your car.

Do a cam swap? Are you nuts? Not in a million years.

It will need tuning and you don't want your dealer doing a cam or tuning (99.899% of the time).
