Screw in Tire

I just noticed I have a screw imbedded in my right front tire. Its about an inch in from the side wall. Can this be repaired?

Just have it plugged up. No need for a new tire.

Get it properly repaired! A plug forces the tire apart and it (tire) will separate... Most shops can do a proper high speed rated repair.... don't be cheap...

On the bright side - the screw may not be that long and penetrated the tire all the way through - has happened to me... Are you feeling lucky?

If it's too close to the side wall then it can't be patched. That's what happened to me. I had to get it plugged because it was right on the edge of the side wall.

never heard of this before.Industry standard is to patch/plug the tire{yes that means both patch and plug not one or the other} and then the tire is no longer speed rated. If this is a 20 in pirelli the tire will not be speed rated the same as the other three. If your not racing the car down a track then you will never notice but if you are replace the tire.

It may be too close to the sidewall to be repaired. I ran into this with my Z06 a few years back. I took it to a few different places, but they all said it was too close. Supposedly some government standard changed a few years back which changed how much of the tire is considered "sidewall" and unrepairable.

Who knows, maybe you got lucky and it's a short screw that didn't penetrate all the way through.

Screwed

Picked up this screw at Watkins Glen Racetrack. I pulled it, roughed the opening with a tire file, then used contact cement with one of those gooey rope plugs. Hasn't lost air yet (few weeks). Might have the inside patched when the winter wheels go on. Had some snow flurries in the air today, the summer tires are still usable, fun on cold wet parking lots at 37 degrees !!

It is definitely too close to the side wall, after a second look. Thank god I bought the road hazard insurance. I guess I'll take it back to the dealer to have it replaced.
