On-Star/Mapquest

Just received an email today about a new feature of On-Star. You can now create your maps on Mapquest and send it to your turn-by-turn directions via OnStar. I suspect I will be using the heck out of this feature in the Z06 as well as the Camaro when it gets here.

I can't wait to map out some nice curvey roads

Pretty cool...doesn't quite replace a GPS but at least I can see the map online before I send it to my car.

Cool, I'll like that feature as I'm going to have the Onstar service on my Camaro.

Currently no girlfriend, so Onstar will guide me.

I actually find on-star to be better than the stock nav sometimes. I'll still use both. But if you want to plan a weekend drive, this seems like a very nice option

I knew they were working on this, but didn't hear when it was ready. I guess it is now!

I'm going to take some ribbing on this, but I just bought an Iphone and the map thing on it is cool! It works as a GPS and if you put directions on it, it will tell you exactly where your at and give directions. I know there is a huge difference, I'm just sayin!

I have an '08 Buick Enclave and have used this feature. I believe all it downloads is the address destination, not the mapquest route. turn-by-turn doesn't always agree with mapquest and according to a friend who uses it more then I do, On Star turn-by-turn has found better and quicker routes then mapquest. The other cool thing about On Star is you can call while driving and the operator will find you what you want in the direction you are heading. I usually am traveling alone and don't want to pull over to fiddle with the gps unit. I called them at about 5:30 am looking for a Starbucks not far off of I-95 and south of me (my direction of travel). It also had to be a stand alone store, not in a target or grocery store to be sure it was open. No problem, I had directions in about 2 minutes and shortly Hot Coffee

And onstar won't freak out if you miss a turn, it will just re-calculate

Yeah i know I totally necroed this thread from the dead.

Does anyone know more about the Mapquest feature. Specifically When you get in the car after sending directions does it automatically start navigating? If not do you have the ability to send multiple locations to the car and then pick one? And finally, does it save those locations or once you get there its gone?

It's pretty slick. the mapquest thing doesn't send the directions to your car, FYI. It just sends the destinations that you save.

You get on mapquest, type in your destination address, and then click a link that says "Send to OnStar" and it asks for your OnStar account number. You give the location a name, like "Home" for instance.

When you get in your car, you hit the Phone button and say, "Virtual Advisor" and then you'll eventually say the name of your destination, "Home" in this case. Then it gives you some info and hangs up, then it sends the directions to the destination you chose directly to the Turn-by-Turn map route that's one of the menus in the DIC.

When coming up on a turn, it will lower the volume of the radio and a voice will tell you to make a right/left in xx miles over the cars speakers.

It's really quite cool if you ask me.

What is onstar's annual cost?

I have TomTom on my Iphone, but trying to decide if I want to pay for its annual updates or Onstar after it expires.

It's 200 per year for the basic, and 300 per year gets you the added turn-by-turn feature...

Cool, so lets say I save like 5 locations, does it erase them eventually or what? Like can I navigate to "home", then like a week later do it again or is it gone and I have to re-set what "home" is in mapquest?
